There’s a Final A and a Final B for the men’s 5,000 meters. Is the event being run as a time trial?

Yes. Ireland are not happy as Darragh McElhinny had it as a goal for this year and they split the field based on seasons bests, not personal bests. So while he would be a medal chance based on PB, he’s running in the B final based on his SB

Late decision according to an Irish journalist. Poor decision too IMO

Thanks! First time I’ve heard of the 5,000 meters being run as a time trial ever.

With a time like that she would make the final for sure, but it is more than unlikely that she will be able to repeat that time in Tokyo.

definitely not. :d but I believe she could make it to the semifinals. it would be a fantastic success for her and for the whole Slovak athletics. However, it will definitely depend also on the draw of the heats. but we never had such promising prospect in athletics for sure. If she will keep her focus and continue to work hard she will have a chance foa a very nice career.

Well, she has been improving gradually this year. Achieving a better time almost every race. I would not be surprised if she ran in Tokyo under 54s.

Just as Usain Bolt is known to athletics fans the world over simply as “Usain”, so too will Pia Skrzyszowska be known simply as “Pia”.

You should take a look at the results. In the 200 m, 400 m and 400 m hurdles half of the competitors achieved PBs. It is more than obvious that the „conditions“ (wind, track very fast/too short, timing not working correctly) are more than perfect. Most of the athletes won’t come close to those performances again, at least for some time.

    • It’s honestly baffling how bad she was in 2018. Just absolutely lost her head. Real shame too because she is so gifted. I do hope Li Jianrou sends her a Christmas card every year tho, she was absolutely gifted a gold medal by Christie in 2014.
    • Oh I’m not done yet, unfortunately. From the names that could be back but are still injured   Courtney Hoffos Mikael Kingsbury (should be back before the Olympics) Connor Howe (he returned, but nowhere close to his best so his injury is still giving him issues) Connor Bedard Meryeta O’Dine Megan Oldham
    • Italy also has its own list, although of course not every injury is as terribile  in terms of medal losses. In winter sports have unfortunately much more injuries than summer sports. In the summer only: cycling, volleyball and football.     - Brignone: will return in January, - Tabanelli: will return for the Olympics, - Bassino: season over, - Marta Rossetti: season over, - Lara Malsinier: season over.
    • TNT staff expect they will offer it at a price similar to what they offering the Winter Olympics for rather than the full TNT price.   But equally the main coverage is apparently going to be very different to what they do for the Olympics (Which is less pundits and studio chat than the BBC) with speculation it might be based on NBC’s Olympic coverage with tons of human interest etc.
    • India Sherret (ski cross)   Another name to the ever-growing list of injuries for the Canadian team… used to be excited for the Olympics, now not so much…
