  1. Dendy bucket hat remains one of the most iconic looks in international sport
  2. A little story I wrote on Bob Bertemes for those interested: https://discoverthegames.com/multi-sport-games-veteran-bob-bertemes-keeps-it-light-and-talks-athlete-mindset-its-fun/
  3. Lamont Marcell Jacobs has withdrawn from the competition. What a shock
  4. Right? My town is a huge hub for solar and wind energy, and it too routinely has temperatures over 40 Celsius in the summer.
  5. The full streaming/broadcast schedule is already available. It was shared in this thread a few days ago.
  6. All of the qualification documents are on the EOC’s website: https://www.eurolympic.org/documents-publications/?document-category=european-games (you might need to scroll down a little)
  7. Athletes in second/third division will be eligible for individual event medals in athletics. The rankings will be based off best marks overall (I believe). There will be no medal ceremonies for the individual events due to scheduling/lodging conflicts (athletes will be given medals by their NOCs at a later date). 8. Also, about the state of organization, I obviously can’t have the best gauge since I won’t be attending these games in-person. However, from an outsiders perspective, I feel like there’s a lot being done right: the broadcast deal with EBU/Eurosport, a diversified sports program, solid branding (maybe more local promotion needed), involvement of the local public in the selection of mascots, relying on venues that exist rather than building expensive new facilities, etc. There’s always negativity before the European Games, but I enjoyed both of the last editions. We’ll just have to see how these go once they begin.
  9. Honestly, not a terrible idea. One of the main arguments against the European Games is that they lack relevance. However, if the EOC turns it into more of an Olympic qualification festival that might help somewhat with that problem. It might also bring some more attention to qualification events as well. Personally, I like what Poland/EOC have done with the sports program for this edition. Olympic sports that double as qualifiers or continental championships, and then some other fun “World Games” type sports that add some intrigue to the program and introduce people to some different sports.
  10. The “sport entries” deadline was on June 2, so delegations should mostly be finalized at this point. Thursday’s event is likely just a fun formality for the NOC.
  11. There will only be speed climbing at the The World Games 2025. Link: https://www.ifsc-climbing.org/index.php/news/959-new-competition-format-for-the-world-games-chengdu-2025-approved Six events total (three per gender): speed climbing (two lane), speed climbing (four lane), speed climbing (relay)
  12. Opening ceremony might be more concert-like given this lineup. Maybe similar to the style of Wrocław 2017?
  13. I didn’t realize that LMP2 was dropped from the WEC next season. I’m glad to read they’ll still use the class at 24HLM because it has been reliably chaotic and entertaining for a while now. HyperCar definitely breathing some much needed life into top end endurance racing thankfully.
  14. Lots of different leaders today! Definitely not a walk in the park for Toyota this year. Consistency and clean running may ultimately be their friend though.
  15. https://europeangames.tv is available now. It has some replays from Minsk 2019 and Baku 2015. It does look like streaming might be available be there given the branding and schedules under each sport.
  16. This has to be one of the most dramatic and entertaining editions of the 24HLM in a long time…and I’m only following the race via the live thread on motorsport.com Niche motorsport outlet Motortrend has the broadcast rights in the US. The cost isn’t terrible for the race, I just didn’t want to pay a for a month’s subscription for service I likely won’t use after today (gotta save that budget for the other major sporting events this year.)
  17. Chaotic first few hours so far. Rain, crashes, and safety car periods.
  18. Confirmation that Eurosport and national broadcasters will tag team these Games. Claro will have the rights in Latin American. No info yet for Asia/US/Canada.
  19. I finished my first trip to the EU a few days ago. I thought it might be fun to post what I did in each city/country, so that users from there could give me some feedback on my visit. I technically visited four countries, although my layover was very short in Austria. I had one full day in Frankfurt, then a week in Malta, and 2 1/2 days in Athens. Frankfurt: Römer, Main Riverbank, Cathedral of St. Bartholomew, Historical Museum Malta: Ħaġar Qim Temples, St. John’s Co-Cathedral, Lower Barrakka Gardens, Upper Barrakka Gardens, Saluting Battery (evening gun), Republic Street, Beach at St. Paul’s Bay Athens: Plaka, Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, Arch of Hadrian, Olympieon, Presidential Palace, Parliament (Changing of the Guard), Lykeion, Panathenaic Stadium, Zappeion Megaron, National Garden, Ancient Agora, Roman Agora, Church of Panagias Grigorousas, Library of Hadrian, Prison of Socrates
  20. The hype is settling in for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Down to three classes this year, but deep fields in each. Ferrari, Porsche, Peugeot, Cadillac, Toyota, Glickenhaus, and Vanwall with HyperCar entries. NASCAR with a Garage 56 entry. Definitely the most excited I’ve been in a while.
  21. all entered athletes in the women’s bouldering at Brixen World Cup. They all failed to score a single zone, but still nice to see some new nations giving the sport a try. They would need to be ranked within the Top 36 of the Olympic Series rankings to have a shot at the universality quota.
  22. I don’t mind the idea of a mass start whitewater event, but the course needs to be wider and longer. It shouldn’t be so start dependent. There needs to be able overtaking opportunities. I would be nice to see a Mixed C2 make its way to the program as well.
  23. By the way, if anyone has any questions about what the event was like in-person, I’d be happy to try and answer them
