  1. I think the reason is that it's generally preferable to have a fast shooter in the 1st leg, and especially in the prone shooting, where Hofer is quite slow. Now, I'm not saying I agree with the choice, because I don't. I think it's going to neutralize Giacomel's skiing skills in the 1st lap at least. I guess the idea is to try and set a very fast pace in the 1st leg, which is usually quite tactical, but I'm afraid that's going to force Giacomel to risk too much because he will feel he has to make some time somehow. Regardless, Italy must be on the podium tomorrow. I think that would be crucial for the following races as well. I think France is the clear favorite, but the other teams are not stronger than Italy on paper.
  2. Before his program, the Italian commentator said: "Watch out because Malinin tends to underperform under pressure".
  3. Thankfully no 4th place for Mattioli Still a bit of a shame because he had a medal-performance in him.
  4. Ok, @Josh was right Still, quite the self-distruction by Norway in the final end.
  5. No it's just Mosaner and Constantini are giving me very bad feelings in these Olympics. It is true Norway is playing an awful 8th end so far, though
  6. It's 5-5, Constantini and Mosaner have been underperforming all week and Norway has power play, they would have to shoot themselves in the foot not to win, I don't see it
  7. I'm afraid Mattioli will end up 4th by 0.5 points
  8. Mosaner The Italians are unrecognizable, they are not making it to the semis.
  9. Langenhan looks untouchable I thought starting last in the 2nd run might hurt him, he improved the TR instead. The temperature should be lower tomorrow, I don't know if that may mix things up a bit.
  12. I think Italy is not safe at all, given the way they are playing
  13. Altra sconfitta nettissima
  15. The issue was that quite often weaker racers had a big advantage starting with lower bibs. That made the race more uncertain, but also more random. Sometimes the best racers were clearly not in the condition to win. In the early 2000s, for a few years, the fastest skier in the last training started with bib 30, the 2nd fastest with bib 29, etc. In Super G, the top ranked athlete started with bib 30, the 2nd athlete started with bib 29, and so forth. That extended the time when the race was interesting, but the randomness was even more extreme.
  16. Yep, especially because we have won just once, in 1952, and I doubt we will have a better chance than a downhill in Bormio with Paris, who won 6 times here, and Franzoni, who is at home on this kind of course. We historically fare much better on difficult courses and Olympic downhills tend to be relatively easy. Still, not much to regret today. I was way more disappointed in 2014 when Innerhofer squandered a huge lead and finished 0.06s behind Mayer. I hope Paris can hang on to bronze because he deserve an Olympic medal more than anyone.
  17. A 2-round downhill on the Stelvio would be carnage, and not necessarily in a metaphorical way I think the only guy at the start with an outside chance of spoiling the podium is Elezi Cannaferina.
  18. Congrats to Von Allmen, to me he is really the prototype of a downhill racer. I believe he was clearly the one with the best time in his legs, the issue was whether he would ski clean or not. He has been perfect, and it was clear when he crossed the line his time could not be beaten (I was actually a bit surprised Franzoni was quote close). I hoped for gold today, but I think the current podium is the best reflection of the athletes’ value.
  23. I don't watch curling that regularly, but I'm fairly sure Mosaner never played so poorly in his life
