  7. This was easily one of the top 5 volleyball games I have ever seen I think Brazil played slightly better throughout most of the game. If the match had been stopped at 13-13 in the 5th and the winner had to be decided by judges, Brazil would have won. Brazil passed perfectly for 5 sets, basically neutralizing even Antropova's serve. When she hit a cannonball with Italy up 12-11 in the tie-break and Brazil received perfectly again, I thought that was a turning point in the match. Then at 13-13, they basically shot themselves in the foot off an innocuous float serve by Sylla. The match gave me the same feeling as Djokovic vs. Federer at Wimbledon 2019: the loser seemed to do everything better and should have won according to all criteria, and yet somehow lost. Also, Gabi's performance was one for the ages.
  8. This is 100% correct, I was assuming Crouser won’t show up, I should have made it clear.
  9. Well, last year's injury was just (an insane amount of) bad luck. As far as Fabbri is concerned, it is true he has a chance, but like you said, he is very inconsistent this year. I would add that the approach to the competition will be very hard for him, after what happened last year in Paris. Also, Kovacs may still make it to Tokyo if he wins the Diamond League final in Zurich (he is the favourite in my opinion).
  10. An absolute disgrace, Stano was Italy's best chance at a gold medal (perhaps the only actual chance, actually; everyone else would need a major underperformance by someone else).
  11. Oh I didn't mean to belittle Nervini in any way, I think she's very talented. I was just pointing out that her approach to her first major tournament as a starter is a bit of a question mark, just like it would be for anyone else. It is true that Bosetti did not have a stellar season, but she played the best volleyball of her career in Paris, so I don't know if Nervini (or Giovannini, whom I like) will be able to replicate that. I'm also a bit worried about the absence of the middle blocker backups. Not because any of them is better than Fahr or Danesi, but just because, in such a tournament, you never know if you need to resort to the subs. I would have felt more comfortable with Lubian or Chirichella coming off the bench.
  12. Italy is the favourite, but we won't be dominant as we were last year at the Olympics. I have a feeling Brazil will ultimately take gold. Caterina Bosetti was not selected because coach Julio Velasco wanted to look for a younger starter as outside hitter. Alice Degradi was the starter in the VNL, but she is injured and won't be at the World Championship (she is a talented but unlucky player, as she also missed the Olympics last year for the same reason). Elena Pietrini, who was briefly a starter under Velasco's predecessor, Davide Mazzanti, has struggled with injuries for a long time and was among the players who declined the call-up to the national team. Stella Nervini will probably be the starter. She is definitely talented, but has very little experience at this level of competition. Also, we will miss Chirichella, Lubian and Bonifacio, three middle blockers who are the best alternatives to the starting duo of Fahr and Danesi. It's still a strong team, but we definitely won't be cruising to the title with a string of 3-0 wins like last year in Paris.
  13. A brilliant meeting overall, especially with the one-two punch of Warholm and Jefferson at the end. Warholm, in particular, went way beyond my expectations. I thought the question would be whether he would break the 47 seconds barrier or not, but instead he ended up running the third-fastest time ever (the fastest outside of the Tokyo 2020 final). On a side note, a pretty awful performance from the Italian team, the only exception being Fabbri's 22.10 m in the shot put (although I think he could be consistently above 22.50 and occasionally above 23 m). Iapichino had one of her worst competitions in recent memory (which is odd, because she doesn't reach the peaks of Mihambo or Davis, but she is very consistent), Simonelli did not even finish the race, Sibilio was terrible and Tamberi is still a thousand miles away from the ideal shape (he also had a baby a few days ago and acknowledged his head really wasn't in the competition).
  14. It should be noted that, despite dropping two places in the placing table compared to 2023, Italy scored 16.5 more points (128 to 111.5). The team's performance was obviously very good, but I think it is worth pointing out that we keep struggling in the throws (a long-standing issue) and we were almost non-existent in the long-distance races. Both things could be said about the U23 championships as well.
  16. I agree, I was wondering if perhaps they could argue she had already passed the baton. But I watched the replay again and I think when she touched the line for the second time, she still held the baton. She passed it between the second and the third time. Of course, because they are obsessed with the quality of the exchanges. Which makes total sense, of course (especially if you don't have the strongest line-up), as long as you keep in mind it's a running race where you also have to pass the baton three times, not a baton-passing contest where you also have to run for 400 metres.
  17. The German’s second time stepping on the line coincided almost exactly with the baton exchange, there will be a protest for sure
  18. Massive under-performance by the Italian 4x100 (women’s). The final exchange was a disaster. I’m also not convinced at all it was a smart idea to have Doualla run the 1st leg when she recently said she is not comfortable running the bends.
  20. With the exception of men's swimming, Italy's Olympics are a nightmare.
