I think another reallocation place will be available if Germany stays in 3rd position. I doubt that Germany will nominate more than 5 men (unless Zobel having a fantastic pursuit race on Sunday). Sweden will overtake Germany for 3rd place if and only if they win the relay on Saturday (which is totally possible, esp. without Norwegian A team) and Germany finishing 3rd or worse.

Same applies for France I reckon :mumble:

I don't see us sending Perrot just to sit there and undergo daily PCR tests, even more while the Junior World Champs are taking place :mumble:Nor any other IBU Cp athlete in fact.

And now she's not in Saint-Moritz :wall:

Don't know why but that's obviously playing with fire ... only 6 results when other have 7. Only :BEL Vannieuwenhuyse and :KOR Kim can overtake her. They're both in Europa Cup, where there's pretty much no competition. The Belgian needs a top 6 to get ahead, consider it done, the Korean a victory :mumble:With a 2nd place they would be even, with an even best performance, and an even last performance :mumble:Anyway, supporting Germany for once :pope:

  3. Biathlon will be the key sport. First of all because both France and Sweden can win a huge amount of medals in it, then because it's probably the most unpredictable and open to surprises sport of the Games. France could get 10 medals in biathlon, but could also get 3, same applies for Sweden. France have higher chances though, since our team is stronger overall. Pretty much every French biathlete can win a medal individually, not the case for the Swedes.

+ Sweden can medal in M hockey and Freestyle Skiing, France behind quite a lot of almost secured medals in Alpine Skiing, Biathlon and Freestyle Skiing, can win max 2-3 medals in Cross-Country and maybe a medal in Ice Dance

Ice Dance is not a maybe, that's a probably. Probably gold by the way. 3 in Cross-country would be a maximisation of the chances, manageable but still hard to attain. Snowboard-cross is also a great supplier (between 1 and 3).

  4. Finally, only 7 races taken into account so the current IBSF rankings are pretty much set in stone.

Men : :IRL Doyle needs 87 points to overcome :ESP Mirambell, i.e top 17 in Saint-Moritz.

Women : :SWE Stratton needs 99 points to overcome :FRA Bessard, i.e top 15 in Saint-Moritz.

Paradoxically, :LAT Terauda only gets the 10th/11 individual quota, but Latvia (Zunte) is only 4 points away from stealing the second quota to :GBR Deas. If the later finishes next race on her sled, GB will obtain two starters easily though.

  5. Don't know why but the French girls decided to skip both Winterberg and Sigulda, or in fact any race at any competition during these weeks. So in the end they will only score 7 races, as opposed to 8 for the others. Qualification is manageable in both disciplines but with only one extra race it would have been a no-brainer ...

Baloga today probably buried our chances to have a Relay in Beijing...

Due to the poor result of Baloga, our team gained today only a few points in the Olympic qualification. The big problem is that although :ROU definitely dropped out of the fight for the Olympics since they were not here at full strength and send their best athletes to the IBU Cup to Osrblie, :EST scored exceptionally today, experiencing their best races in many years :wall: - Zahkna finished 17th with 0+0 and others took 57th and 65th places.

That earned them a incredible 284 points !!! and are now only 54 points behind us 4 races before the end of the Road to the Olympics. Today they even erased 138 points from our gap. :( If they overtook us, (which is unfortunately very realistic, given they have their strongest events XR and XSR to come) only Šima and Bartko could probably start at the Olympics, and Šimon is yet the last above the cutting IBU points line.

The WOG Qualification ranking is here.

But Japan is still behind so if only one of the two overtake Slovakia then you're still in. And Slovakia has got more leeway to score in the mixed relays : both have a 80 points best in the XR but Estonia has a best of 110 points in the XSR when Slovakia has 70 points. Considering Fialkova's form a good single mixed could do it.

After first good shooting from Guńka he had 3 misses in second shooting and qualification to pursuit seems to be impossible right now. But still he performed already better than Szczurek and Guzik.

But fellow IBU Junior Cup athlete Zawół has done better and will make the pursuit

I see that our leader of Junior Ranking, Jan Guńka will race tomorrow in Oberhof too, I hope that he will manage to be in top40!

That seems a bit optimistic. Qualifying for the pursuit is a respectable goal at first.

The only way that happens is if either Austria, France of Czech Republic put up stupid money for advertising.  Outside of that, Germany keeps both weeks.

In a way, the introduction of Decathlon as a sponsor marks a French investment :d

Concerning Austria, Hochfilzen is already a German venue, as is Antholz btw.

It's rational for a small country to concentrate a limited budget on a few sports.  Cycling, sailing, rowing, equestrian, canoeing,....they get a lot of medals for a 5m population country.   Apart from Alice Robinson, their main hopes are in the freestyle events, so....biathlon is not like athletics or swimming where you can chuck a few people in and hope for the best, it's an expensive commitment.  Similar situation years back with Jakov Fak & :CRO

But Wright mainly trains in Europe and I don't think his federation provide him that much support, probably financially. But we're not even talking about investing a lot of money in biathlon, we're talking about not putting a spoke in an promising athlete's wheels, more so since this athlete could easily represent another country with more room for improvement.
