hukbrazil reacted to MHSN in Men's Basketball FIBA World Cup 2019
There are some other minor possibilities to consider because the first tie breaker is rank in the group
if Tunisia loses to Angola with 7-14 margin, Iran will be (at best) 3rd in the group. that will leave no chance for Iran.
Tunisia can lose and still qualify, if they lose by 10 or less they still will win the group (if Iran also beats PHI)
Angola is still alive too, if they win by 11 or more. they will win the group (or if they just win and Iran loses) in both cases for Tunisia and Angola they need China to beat Nigeria .
the other group with CHN-NGR is less complicated, the winner will win the group. if Nigeria lose they will be eliminated for sure because after all an African team (Angola or Tunisia) will win Group N.

I ignore posts from bestmen and OlympicsFan, so I almost forgot how fun it is to read troll posts sometimes.

As usual at Gracenote they look at every single event, weigh results of competitions in that event, order competitors based on their chance, and predict gold, silver, bronze in each event. That's fine, a lot of people, newspapers, sites do that. But they should stop there instead of producing a medal table (not going to happen of course). So yeah, 12 gold medals for Japan in judo because in 12 categories they think that Japan is #1 favorite, which is not unrealistic, but of course if each one of them has a 50% chance (just an example) to win gold, then 6 gold medals would be the most likely outcome, and 12 would be as likely as 0.
On the other side, countries with a lot of contenders but not many clear favourites will always be underestimated...only 6 golds for Italy would be very disappointing.

Yes, no one cares about fencing in Brazil and, yes, she was born in Italy, but I hope this medals puts fencing on the map in Brazil and boosts the confidence of future fencers. You are from Romania, so you must know how much bad results can impact the future of any sport, especially your women's artistic gymnastics team.

Tournaments for 2020 assigned
The 2019 IIHF Annual Congress has assigned the tournaments of the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship program for the upcoming season.
Three of the biggest tournaments have already been announced earlier. The 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will take place in Zurich and Lausanne, Switzerland; the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship will be hosted by Ostrava & Trinec in the Czech Republic; and Canada will host the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Halifax and Truro in the eastern province of Nova Scotia.
Another top-level event got its host today. The United States will host the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship outside of Detroit at the at the 3,800-seat USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth and at the smaller Ann Arbor Ice Cube in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The group and game allocation as well as the game schedule will be stablished latest for the Semi-Annual Congress in September.
The decision for the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women's World Championship was deferred to the Semi-Annual Congress in late September.
Among the biggest venues to be chosen were the ones hosting the Division I tournament’s in the men’s senior category.
Slovenia will host the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A at the multifunctional Arena Stozice in its capital of Ljubljana from 24 to 30 April 2020. The arena was first time used for ice hockey for the very same event in 2012 when up to 10,500 fans filled the arena and saw Slovenia earn promotion to the top division. The other applicant Romania withdrew its bid because the construction of the new arena in Bucharest was stopped recently and it’s not sure whether it would be ready in time.
France, Austria, Korea, Slovenia, Hungary and Romania will play at the event and battle for promotion to the top level for the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Minsk (Belarus) and Riga (Latvia).
One tier below the Polish city of Katowice will host the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group B in the historical Spodek arena that successfully hosted the 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A with up to 8,500 fans at the venue. It is best known in hockey history for hosting the top-level 1976 Worlds where Poland as a host scored one of the biggest upsets in hockey history by beating the Soviet Union 6-4.
Another former World Championship arena to be used is the Chizhovka Arena in Minsk, Belarus, that will host the U20 World Championship Division I Group A from 8 to 14 December 2019. It will be used as a test for the Belarusian organizers before co-hosting the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship with Riga.
A record of 54 teams will participate in the men’s senior category with Malaysia and the Philippines joining and 40 teams will play in the women’s senior category with the first-time participation of Lithuania. That also means that new divisions and/or groups are planned to be created including a Division IV in the men’s senior category pending formal approval by the delegates in the IIHF Statutes & Bylaws later during Congress.
The full list of events for the 2020/2021 season will be published on IIHF.com soon.

Blatant corruption.

Test events serves as a preliminary overview of how structures should work in many ways. For example, questions of logistics, security, work teams etc.
In addition to identifying possible problems, that can be solved before the Olympics, instead of only realizing them when the Olympics begin.

hukbrazil got a reaction from ChandlerMne in Summer Olympic Games 2016 Replay Videos
I'm sorry for leveling the thread, but I must express here how inconceivable is the fact that in 2018 (we're not talking about something 50 years ago!), we did not have access to any video record of the great majority of team sports matches at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
This is a historic damage, and I am perplexed with the passivity of both the International Olympic Committee and the sports lovers.
Sad, revolting and shameful.

Carambola ("starfruit") is the best in my opinion. Also, "carambola" is a funny name

It would be completely idiotic anyway to let Contador be the leader in a one day race in which Valverde is in the team as well

hukbrazil reacted to vinipereira in Summer Olympic Games 2016 Venues
Some thoughts:
* Most venues are ready and now we have the temporary structures being installed. The exception, of course, is the Velodrome in Olympic Park, which has the track and most of its interior ready, but needs some fast work on the facade.
* Nice to see the temporary seats being installed, giving "shape" to the temporary arenas, like the secondary tennis courts in Olympic Park and the Rugby Arena and Equestrian Stadium in Deodoro.
* Possible to see other temporary structures being installed in the Olympic Park, like the Rio mega store and the Globo studio, which are covering the blank spaces.
* Similarly, the warm up pool from Swimming was covered with a temporary roof.
* In the Olympic Village, is possible to see a huge temporary strutucture that probably will host most of the services for the athletes. I was also told that more than 70% of the apartments are already furnished.
* In Deodoro, seems like they will keep the little fake slum alongside some part of the Mountain Bike course. I have no objections, but some people hate it.
* I have tickets for one Golf session. Will I have to be in those stands for the entirety of the session (which will take hours)?

Say that doping should be liberated is the most ignorant statement I have ever seen in sports
Dragon well summarized the answer
