  3. not so tricky, tbh... Numa was on another level compared to the Russian...his only true opponent would have been the other great Soviet man, Alexandr Romankov.
  4. just finished the Gold Medal match of the Field Hockey World Cup (BEL vs GER). earlier this morning it was all about Alpine Skiing World Cup and Luge World Championships. now it's time for some Fencing, Epee Grand Prix from Doha, live on Youtube for free... here... maybe also some Judo on the IJF website... then, later on tonight, it's time for the NFL playoffs (the Handball Worlds GMM is going to tomorrow for me)...
  5. and are back on top of the world... the reign is over...

  8. he should be very proud of the great diversity this sport has right now... oh, wait...Germany has grabbed all the gold medals (and a lot of silver and bronze) so far...

  10. it's the other way round... Coughlan won the gold medal match vs Rodriguez (3 shido against the Venezuelan girl after almost 10 minutes, in the Golden Score period).
  11. a few interesting results in the first couple of days of this first GP tournament of the year. mainly, Sagi Muki's comeback, which didn't go as good as many people expected. for Italy, OK, it's a second, maybe even third tier team, but still, the results so far are worse than what it should be, except for Capanni's bronze yesterday in the women's -57kg (especially considering that the girl is still 19).
  12. the new season is well underway... after the "appetizer" of the first stage of the 2nd tier Serie A series in Athens a couple of weeks ago, this week it's time for the first stage of the top class Karate 1 Premier League in Cairo. this is the Results Recap of the tournament held in Greece: https://www.wkf.net/imagenes/campeonatos/karate1resultados-2023-karate-1-series-a-athens-001.pdf more about the K1PL tournament in Egypt to follow...

  15. (quite some time ago) they used to have a good one also in Nowy Targ
  16. I think you've been a bit optimistic... this is your regular Downhill World Cup tracks lenght and drop: Lake Louise (W), 3087m (827m drop) Beaver Creek (M), 2653m (753m drop) Val Gardena (M), 2514m (600m drop) Skt.Moritz (W), 1950m (550m drop) Bormio (M), 3442m (1023m drop) Wengen (M), 2950m (738m drop) Cortina (W), 2660m (760m drop) Kitzbuehel (M), 3312m (860m drop) this year's World Champs tracks: Courchevel/Meribel (W), 2307m (700m drop) Courchevel/Meribel (M), 3100m (945m drop)
  17. unfortunately not... unless she gets banned by the ISU for the Valieva case (or any other misdemeanor she might have done), Grassl has the full support of our federation to keep on working with her.
  18. Speedskating, men's 1500m...here I'm really biased, I must admit this is one of my "legendary moments" ever at the Winter Olympics because it never happened before (and after) and because of the how it happened (for those who remember the details of that race). my pick can only be Enrico Fabris. Speedskating, women's 1500m...this is easy... Ireen Wust is a no brainer. Short Track Speedskating, men's 1500m...among all the Koreans and the American I could never/I can't/I will never stand, a man does really stand out...and he's Charles Hamelin. Short Track Speedskating, women's 1500m...here my pick is Choi Min Jeong, one of the GOAT of the sport.
  19. yes! finally! Willy Schneider is a magician! if only we could build a track by the 2026 Olympics... however, we might add that Skt. Moritz is a special place and a totally different track from all the others in the world. the reality on "regular" tracks has been quite different so far.
  20. nice success, but with tonight's score, in Beijing they would have been 9th. the world medals are 40/45 points beyond. that's the sad truth about this championship. Italy will dominate the field (in absentia ), but I don't think there's too much to celebrate (meanwhile here it will happen exactly that).
  21. no, unfortunately they never paid any prize for their State sponsored doping cheating since 2008 (proven until 2014, not yet investigated after that year). they are banned (and not at 100%) for that only in Athletics. but in all the other sports they have always been there to steal undeserved medals (and actually, in Tokyo they won the most medals ever since the USSR was dismantled). and that's why I'm against their participation in any sports activity...not because of politics (keep politics far away from sport), but because they somehow have to pay the prize for their cheating (and it must be a very high prize, at least 2 year ban for every year of State sponsored cheating).
  22. just listen to Paris Mayor's words from earlier this morning...
  23. next week, it's also time for the Zagreb Ranking Series Tournament... and Italy have gone shopping in the former USSR once again... the newcomer is Akhmedkhan Tembotov, who's going to wrestle for us in the men's -86kg in Freestyle Wrestling.
  24. last day of the championships...and finally, Italy take the men's Slalom Gold Medal, thanks to Corrado Barbera. we end up the championship with 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals in the individual events (we might add 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze in the team events, but to me they don't count anything even at the Olympics, imagine in a youth competition). in the "serious" Individual races, and won 2 Gold medals each, and won 1 Gold medal each. also won 1 Gold medal each in the socalled (senseless and useless) Team events (Mixed Team Parallel, men's Team Alpine Combined, women's Team Alpine Combined).
  25. here we go again... Arianna Fontana vs the Italian Ice Sports Federation, chapter #9762 almost 12 months after the Gold Medal won in Beijing, our GOAT speedskating specialist goes again wild against our ice sports federation (FISG), because she says that they have not fulfilled any of the promises they made at the end of last season. even worse, those who were the target of her previous attack are still there as trainers and officials of our NT. therefore, the relationship between her and the federation (and the NT staff) is now definitively compromised. she also said that she's been following her husband (former speedskater Anthony Lobello) in the last few weeks/months in his US tour, which means that most likely, if her husband will be hired in the coaching staff of the US team, she's going to switch Nationality and compete for the as soon as possible. the source (in Italian): https://www.oasport.it/2023/01/short-track-arianna-fontana-cambia-nazionalita-fiducia-nello-staff-tecnico-e-federale-irrecuperabile/?refresh_ce
