Keep in mind that this is a special speed competition. Jumping penalties will be converted into time (like in canoe slalom), and the athletes will be ranked by time. So you don't theoretically need to jump clear to win this round.

Lambert Leclezio opens men's vaulting with 8.440. He used to compete for Mauritius for a long time, including 2014 WEG and 2016 Worlds (where he won an epic gold for the island nation). But obviously he was too good to be winning medals for Mauritius...
