  1. De Grasse is in a lane next to Bolt for the semi in the 200m, just like in the 100m.
  2. Warner with a decent result in high jump. Gains on Eaton, but only 1 point ahead of 3rd and 9 ahead of 4th, 19 ahead of 5th.
  3. Canada loses a jump off for bronze in equestrian jumping. Eric Lamaze finished in 1st in the individual qualification.
  4. To be honest, it wasn't much of a battle. Drouin didn't fault until he already had the gold. But yes, those two are also great athletes. I love the win, but pole vault last night was much more dramatic.
  5. Their end in the last game was just sad. I don't have a better word for it. The end to this game was the same. In any sport, it's not about the final outcome so much as how you got there. And in both games, Canada just disappeared when it mattered. They were both close, especially this one, but I knew they weren't going to win early in the second half. Like I said, just sad.
  6. Not just because they lost here, but after the last two game I think I overestimated Canada's abilities. In my defence, I don't know basketball that much. Obviously much better than past teams, but still not in the upper level. Kia Nurse has been a disappointment here.
  7. She's been very disappointing this game.
  8. Canada was leading by quite a bit, and then had so many chances to be in this game in the 4th. They didn't deserve to win at all. I mean, you throw the ball out with 30 seconds left down by 5? Sad.
  9. Canada had this game, but is giving it up.
  10. Canada's draws here have been ridiculous.
  11. I can't find the anthem version, but here is Greg Joy's silver medal jump from Montreal. My parents lived there at the time. They speak of it fondly. For some reason, this jump touched the nation at the time.
  12. Yeah, I think I mentioned here before the Games that I had hopes for the Canadian ladies in one of the freestyle relays. I though Oleksiak had chances to make some finals, too. But that was the 'old' standard. Just making the finals was seen as an accomplishment. It was so hilarious how, for myself, I went from disbelief on Day 1 when they took bronze to disappointment on the last day in the pool when they didn't get a medal. And the future looks so good with that group.
  13. Thank you. It's not that serious, like I said. But Drouin certainly let me forget about it for a while.
  14. Well, I mean I read her name so I was familiar. But never expected what she delivered. No one predicted what happened in the pool, not even their coaches.
  15. For the 1500m, the Canadian announcer: "This is slow. This is really slow. This is disappointingly slow".
  16. And that's sport. Even us Olympics geeks, who ever heard of Penny Oleksiak two weeks ago? Now she's mentioned in the same breath as Donovan Bailey, Clara Hughes and Cindy Klassen.
  17. I wasn't born when it actually happened in 1976, but CBC used to show Greg Joy's silver medal jump from Montreal during the anthem when they signed off for the night (I realize this means nothing to some of you children ). It would be grand if CBC had enough self awareness to reproduce that tonight with Drouin's gold medal jump.
  18. I got some bad news today (not that bad, everyone's healthy) and I really needed a win. Thought the soccer girls would deliver, but I'll take this. This feels good. Oh, and the whiskey.
  19. First gold in swimming since 1992. First gold in athletics since 1996.
  20. Haha. But certainly better than London. And still more chances.
