  1. Well, what I meant was it takes so much of the drama out of it. In every event, you know the Chinese will finish 1-2. So everyone else is just vying for bronze. It's just boring as a fan. And then you know they're going to nail every single dive, so there's no drama there. Boring. At least on the women's side. At least the USA took us to OT in 2010. And our women had to stage an epic comeback in 2014.
  2. And frankly, as a diving fan, I'm so effing sick of the Chinese.
  3. Just got home and watched the last dives on replay. Poor Jenn. Two 4ths. Lost on the last dive both times.
  4. Thiam's 6810 from Rio is 2 points better than Theisen-Eaton's PB. That's incredible.
  5. No, because the second best Canadian buterflyer is way behind Penny. Van Landeghem had a great swim anyway, tied for 3rd best in the field. Just going on splits, it was Nichols that was behind the field (2nd slowest in the breaststroke). And actually, again just comparing times, Penny wasn't that strong on her leg either. But they lowered their Canadian record so no regrets. Frankly, it was just an out of this world swim for Denmark (China was always going to compete for the bronze).
  6. Wow, the one swimming event I thought Canada was a lock for a medal and they didn't get any. Huh. Hard to be disappointed. But still...disappointed.
  7. Well, anything can happen. It should be an exciting finish.
  8. Ennis-Hill and Theisen-Eaton are both much, much better at the 800m than everyone else in contention. And there are lots of points available in the race.
  9. Looking at PBs of the contenders, I don't think she has a chance to pass JEH. But actually, silver is still very much attainable. Thiam's PB is much, much lower than everyone else's. And apparently she hurt her arm in javelin?
  10. And she has one of the best 800's in the field. Unfortunately, so does Ennis-Hill.
  11. Brianne ties her javelin record. Looking good now (for the podium)!
  12. De Grasse will run next to Bolt in the semis tomorrow. Hope that inspires him! He looked good in the prelims today. Bolt looked bored.
  13. Yeah, GB performed much better here than they have recently (like, the last 4 years) and the Americans have been very good this year, too. So they probably saved themselves for this race. They also got lucky with the Aussies sucking in the first round and giving the Kiwis the place in the bronze race. Well, idk if 'lucky' is the right word since the Aussies didn't look good here at all.
  14. Well, the good news for diving is that Abel wasn't as good as she can be today and still finished 3rd by a large margin. If she's clean tomorrow a medal will be attainable, maybe gold if the Chinese screw up. Also, Ware makes the final as well.
  15. LOL, one of the Chinese divers doesn't even need to do her last dive in order to qualify for the final.
  16. Burnette with a disasterous second routine, don't think he'll make it to the finals of trampoline.
  17. I don't know either of them personally, of course, but to me at least Bolt seems to have fun out there and is talkative with fans, volunteers and other competitors. Phelps seems a little...in his own world...above everyone else. While De Grasse was doing an interview after a race one time, Bolt went over and congratulated him and said he was the future of the sport. I've never seen Phelps even interact with anyone else (besides teammates). I'd rather watch a guy out there having fun and soaking it up than someone so 'above it all', personally.
  18. Yeah, pretty much. If Brianne can finish ahead of KJT and Jones in javelin she'll be in a good position for bronze because her 800m is very strong and you can get a lot of points there. Thiam and Ennis-Hill would both basically have to not get a mark in javelin for her to get the gold. Another worry is Schafer in 6th, just behind Brianne. But her 800m is much weaker.
  19. Theisen-Eaton needed a huge result in long jump. Didn't get it. Good, but not great. Still, 'only' 90 points off the podium now. A medal is still very possible, but probably only bronze.
  20. Canada wins in beach volleyball! Canada loses in beach volleyball...
