Congratulations Frenchs!!, the team with less mistakes of the World Cup, i dont hide the fact that i want to East Europe has their first World Champion.....but like Hungary, Yugoslavia and Checoslovaquia, that curse of subchampion continues.
By the way, nobody notes that Grey worm is World Champion.....

He reminded me to our keeper (Armani) against France: not close to saving the penalty, energy-less reaction in the long distance shots...
And Lloris reminded me of Caballero haha

I guess 4 points in this group is a great result for Iran. After all I am happy with the performance of our guys here and I am sure I will feel better tomorrow. Having said that I think we missed a big opportunity to get in the next round. Portugal wasn't unbeatable today. We should have played much more offensive from the beginning. Unfortunately our players are always very nervous when they play against big teams. Despite that I think referee was weak. Ronaldo deserved a red card and we should have had at least 12 minutes extra time.

Fun Fact: German online newspaper welt.de did a research on this and asked FIFA. Apparently 2nd place would be detrmined via fair-play-Points if Germany and Sweden win their matches 2-1. Here you can see all possibilities for german team:

No second place would be determined by fair play points (for example number of yellow cards).

This is a fantastic research
for years, decades, centuries, we knew that, everybody who watches wrestling a bit and understands the rules knew two specific countries always benefits from questionable calls, people mention Uzbekistan less because they were not that good in wrestling to win so many medals, (Taymazov was good enough to win without ref helps)
I'm glad they mentioned our Yazdani several times in the article, even though it was also sad, reopening the old wound these guys should never be around any wresling mat, to be honest they should be in jail by now.

They play for Italy because they don't have any chance for their native country, not because of love for their nonno, let's be honest.
But anyway the main issue I have is that I really don't get why these countries do it in the long term... when the players retire they leave nothing behind, since it's an artificial team without a serious development structure to back it up. And also some other more "ethical" considerations, like "do the victories taste the same that way?" or "do they have equal merit as those countries who breed their own players?"

Diving, Waterpolo, Syncronized Swimming, Swimming - FINA [1450 athletes, 46 events] Low-Medium level FINA actually have 208 national members. The sport aren't praticated in all center-africa and in some zone of Middle east.
Waterpolo situation in the world is dramatic. We haven't African nations in Rio and we have only 5 asian country in the men's qualification and only 2 in the women's tournament.
Synconized Swimming have a reat traditions in eastern Europe and in mediterranean country like Spain, Greece and Spain, all other europan country haven't a competitive team. We have 2 country in Africa (Spain and Egypt), some country in Asia and North America but the situation is better that the waterpolo's situation.
Diving is play in Europe, East asia, Americas and in some country of north america and south africa and the world level is very high.
Archery - WA [128 athletes, 4 events] High Level The World Archery federation actually have 156 members but the soort is played at good level in all continents
Athletics - IAAF [?? athlete, 47 events] High Level Really I must write anything about Athletics?
Badminton - BWF [172 athlete, 5 events] Low Level Badminton is played whit a good level in Asia and Europe. All other continente have a low level of badminton. The BWF is totally absent in arabian goulf, northen africa and some zone of center africa, center america and Oceania.
Some big country like Saudi Arabia, Bolivia and Egypt haven't a badminton federation.
Basketball - FIBA [24 teams, 2 events] High Level I haven't interessing dates to write here
Boxing - AIBA [286 athletes, 13 events] High Level This federation in one of the most corruppted but it have a good numbers of competition in all continents.
Canoeing, Slalom Canoe - ICF [334 athlets, 16 events] Medium-High level I haven't found a lot of data, but this sport isn't played in some zone of africa and Asia. Th only big county whitout federation is Saudi Arabia.
BMX, Road Cycling, Mountain Bike, Track Cycling [?? athletes, 18 events] Low-Medium Level UCI have a different situation for all disciplines. I haven't any interessing statistics for road cycling. MTB and Track Cycling aren't played in Africa and BMX is praticatd only in Americas, Europe and Australia.
Equestrian - FEI [?? Athletes, 6 events] Low Level This sport is unknowed in almost all Africa and Asia.. Only 134 National Federation are associated at FEI
Fencing - FIE [212 athletes, 10 events] High Level The fencing world level is very high, in London 2012 all continents won almost 1 medal. In some zone of Africa fencing is totally absent and in Oceania only Australia, Guam, New Zealand and Samoa have a National Federation.
Field Hockey - FIH [24 teams, 2 events] Low Level So, really? I haven't found a continent when all NOCs are in the FIH.
In Europe a lot of small country (but it's normal) and some balcanic country haven't a field hockey federation.
In Africa we have only 13 national federations, in Asia the sport is played in almost all continents if we remove the Arabian Goulf.

Yes he did, there are videos of him on the net lifting 200 + 240 . (probably few kg heavier than 94kg and that was in training but still this record is 35kg higher than 94kg gold medalist.
I have to say, with the exception of Salimi, Rostami and Nasirshalal (London silver medalist) the rest are OK, they were 5 but one of them Anoushiravani (who is now the head coach) rarely participated in their coup and Mohammadpour was just a kid (poor guy had a serious elbow injury which can even end his career) I can name Molaei (2013 world silver) or Taghian, even Moradi or Babari if you count dopers lol they didn't get into all these stories and stay out of them.
btw it will be hard for Iran to find 5 competitive weightlifters this time (back in Rio we had 6 medal favorites and won 4 medals) Rostami will take one of the spots, Moradi too if he gets cleared by IWF, I hope for Molaei but he also had a surgery back in 2014 and I'm not aware of his current shape.as for Salimi we have to wait couple of months to know his new situation. I think they will also send someone in 105kg, maybe Barari. or Nasirshalal or Kourosh Bagheri's nephew Emad Bagheri.
