The tournament is very much alive here. I mean, duh, we are hosting and this is only the second big international tournament in the past 3 decades where we qualified. EURO2016 was by far the biggest celebration of any sport I have seen in Hungary, Budapest went wild after our matches, it felt like "everyone" was watching it. It will probably be the same this year, but it won't help that we will likely be a punching bag in that group, especially without Szoboszlai and Kalmár.

The "promotion of homosexuality" is getting banned in Hungarian schools. They are pretty much making LBGT related topics tabu in sex ed, they are also banning pride/LGBT related ads from the streets. And this was introduced as an extension of their anti-pedophile bill, in an effort to make it seem like the opposition is supporting pedophiles if they attack the government's anti-LGBT laws. Orbán is smart once again, he knows that Hungarians are generally homophobic, I think even many potential opposition voters are either anti-LGBT or don't care about LGBT issues. They are an easy target, and Orbán will use them to win next year's election, just like how he used the migrant crises in 2018. He wants the election to be about "right-wing normalcy vs. dangerous Western, liberal ideals", not about Orbán's corruption.

Ez egy két napos hír, de eddig nem vettem észre, mert azt hittem, hogy a magyar tenisz szövetség várni fog a Roland Garros végéig a bejelentéssel. My posts are only about the world quotas as I can't calculate any of the extra spots until the end of the WCh. But for sure will get a continental quota, and it will probably be Teltsidou.

I am just not confident in any of our fencers to go all the way. i mean, we have 5 fencers who can win gold medals (Szilágyi, Szatmári, Márton, Pusztai, Siklósi), but I just can't predict a third consecutive Hungarian gold medal in men's sabre, that feels too good to be true. Men's epée can be a mess as always, and our girls in women's sabre haven't won a single WCh medal in the past 5 years, let alone a gold. And we are obviously not the frontrunners in any of the team events.

Rhythmic Gymnastics UEG European Championships 2021
Vektor replied to Totallympics's topic in Gymnastics - Rhythmic
Well, we were the big favorites in women's 3x3 basketball as well. I believe in the qualification when it happens, especially in a discipline where we usually don't win quotas, like in basketball or RG. -

Quota eligible athletes inside the Top24 after Hoop and Ball Pigniczki Berezina Verdes Garcia Stojanov Bogdanova Kolosov Kelaiditi Magopoulou Moustafaeva Ruprecht -
I am not 100% sure about the judo ranking, but if I am right, you can still get it as a continental quota.

First Hungarian medal at the WCh since 2014. I really hope that Tóth also wins his medal at the Games, he's by far the best Hungarian judoka of the last few Olympic cycles.

Weightlifting Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games
Vektor replied to vlad's topic in Weightlifting
This might be the stupidest way to lose a quota if we really miss out in +109, but I think we were expecting all the nonsense from the other weighlifters, Nagy and the Hungarian press were quite pessimistic about his quota chances after the ECh. But I think they forgot about the potential reallocation of the African quota, that's our last chance. -
Rhythmic Gymnastics UEG European Championships 2021
Vektor replied to Totallympics's topic in Gymnastics - Rhythmic
I mean, even now before the other groups Pigniczki's lead is only 1 point ahead of Verdes, it really only takes one error tomorrow, and it's over. Edit: Oh wait, for some reason I thought that the qualification decides the quota, not the final, but that's not the case, right? -
According to my calculations no chances in women's 63kg, in, out in men's 81kg. Women's 63kg Men's 81kg

Ungvári Attila és Özbas Szofi kvótát szerzett cselgáncsban. Meanwhile Özbas defeated Franssen, making her quota more secure. I guess this might also be a good news for Vermeer, but I am not sure how internal selection works there.
-
I did say in my original post that I wouldn't allow more than 14 athletes per NOC either way, and Japan is getting 14 quotas in judo no matter what. It's about second tier nations who might have 2 great judokas in one event, and no other medal chances in the other events.
-
And that is just stupid, especially for judo where we have a lot of athletes competing and there can be an easy solution to ensure diversity, like giving all the continental quotas to those nations who only have a couple of world quotas or none. (And it's not like judo has any issues with diversity)
-
This just shows that one athlete per NOC isn't a good rule for judo (or for any sport where there are weight classes). It would be much better if they would have max. 2 athletes per NOC in a judo event, while they would keep the 7 male/female athletes per NOC rule. So the NOCs couldn't have larger teams than the current maximum (14), but the system would be more flexible.

The most important day is coming up for us, mostly because Özbas has an unfortunate draw and she's the last one with a world quota in her event. She's up against Franssen in the second round, while her two main rivals on the world ranking, the two Koreans, have an easier draw to reach Round 3. If one of the Koreans reaches the Quater-finals and Özbas doesn't gain points here, we will lose a world quota, but both Koreans need at least one upset for that, Han has to beat the French world #1, Cho has to beat Franssen (if Özbas won't beat the Dutch one round earlier). In other words, our fate can be pretty much in the hands of Franssen.

The Hungarian Football Federation announced that the Hungarian team won't take the knee before their EURO2020 matches. They cite that the UEFA and FIFA don't allow political actions during their events, and they support the stance of the international federations. This is obviously in response to England taking the knee at EURO2020.

As always, take this with a grain of salt. In women's 57kg went inside the green zone, while lost a world quota. There are no changes in men's 73kg. Women's 57kg Men's 73kg
