  1. Don't forget Sven Kramer failing to win the 10000m again :D
  2. Sydney 2000: Simon Whitfield winning the men's triathlon Salt Lake City 2002: Steven Bradbury doing a Bradbury Athens 2004: Hicham El Guerrouj winning the men's 5000m Turin 2006: Tanja Frieden winning the women's snowboardcross Beijing 2008: Eric Lamaze winning the individual show jumping Vancouver 2010: Jon Montgomery winning the men's skeleton London 2012: McKayla Maroney's perfect vault in the women's gymnastics team event Sochi 2014: The women's ice hockey finals Rio 2016: Penny Oleksiak and Simone Manuel winning the women's 100m freestyle Pyeongchang 2018: Ester Ledecká winning the women's Super-G
  3. I feel I’m the only person here who would actually like the team sprint in the Olympics. That said, they better not touch the 10000m.
  4. The venue is really the least of the concerns with holding that event in Brazil right now.
  5. Both the Queensland and the Rhine-Ruhr bids are looking really promising.
  6. I would be interested in literally anybody else hosting. Qatar really doesn't have a great record when it comes to major events.
  7. Half the countries you listed already have artificial luge tracks :P Coincidentally only half of the countries you listed appear to have natural luge tracks, too (according to WIkipedia).
  8. Women’s doubles seems pretty inevitable. Natural track less so, but if it ever gets included it will be now.
  9. With few exceptions the people in the bullpen are failed starting pitchers.
  10. There is a minimum of 330 pitchers in the major leagues at all times. So it figures that some of the minor league guys are pretty bad.
  11. The highlight of day 2 for me would have been the debut of surfing.
  12. There are rumors that Malaysia may host a GP this fall, which would be awesome.
  13. This is honestly pretty useful, there were some sports (notably surfing) where I wasn't sure of the exact competition format. Men's and women's doubles in Tennis being two set matches with a super tie-break third set breaks my heart, though.
  14. Fun fact: I first learned of the ongoing atrocities in Yemen from... US media.
  15. People outside the US literally can’t say worst things about the US than Americans themselves say, frankly the most unfairly harsh critics of America come from within. We air our dirty laundry. Which is, incidentally, what I appreciate the most about living in the US. If the PRC didn’t have anything to hide they wouldn’t crack down on free speech.
  16. The (alleged) genocide in Xinjiang and the Hong Kong national security law.
  17. There is an actual ranking that exists. Third and fifth place are always shared, so if 1 and 2 both are DQed it makes sense to bump everybody up by one. If 2 people in the top four of a racket sport event were DQed I would advocate four bronze medals be re-alocated, by the same logic (since on the initial results there was a four way tie for fifth).
  18. This seems like the only reasonable solution.
  19. Don’t let me get on my anti-YOG soap box because if I do I won’t stop complaining for days.
  20. It was already extremely unfair that this event was only every four years. The only way to make an event for 14-18 year olds “fair” is to hold it anualy or every two years at least.
  21. Not surprising to see Maria Sotskova retire, her results haven't been good since Pyeongchang and the Russian team in women's figure skating is incredibly deep. Was she even selected for a GP assignment next season? It's already a huge achievement for her to just have made an Olympic team.
  22. The odds of that being true are probably higher than the odds of his name appearing on any ballots in 2020...
  23. It's probably an attempt to drum up publicity for some future release.
  24. Given that the IOC has pledged full gender equality by Paris 2024 I wouldn’t be surprised if Artistic Swimming was in some real jeopardy.
