  1. Geneviève Lalonde finishes 11th in the women's 3000m steeplechase in a time of 9:22.40, a new national record. Very good performance.
  2. What a brave race from Frerichs. First ever medal by a woman from !!!
  3. Listen, everybody knows that he's Acadian (Cajun) and as such should represent Canada. Sorry I don't make the rules :P
  4. Alright, time for the women's version of the best event in the Olympics. With some (even the only) representation :D I demand a 100m-style epic lightshow.
  5. This winning on criteria rule is nonsense, especially in a 1-1 Greco match where both points were scored because of passivity warnings...
  6. This high jump is not going great for Warner. Kaul making up a lot of ground.
  7. Also, is the final really a single round (then the jump-off)? That's pathetic.
  8. **** it, just hold a 30 rider jump-off from the start.
  9. I feel like short track rules and referring has actually gotten pretty good. At the world cup they also do a good job showing the incidents that lead to penalties ever since the confusing women's relay finals from 2018.
  10. Rune qualifying is definitively really exciting.
  11. Her body has also clearly been breaking down for a few years, this isn't the first time she unexpectedly bombs out. 43 is extremely old for a weightlifter, after all.
  12. She sure did. ...I did not have "both Canadians will win their heats" on my bingo card.
  13. Sure sounds like those BBC pundits got really used to Britain's decade of dominance in track cycling and assumed it must be the state of the world for ever.
  14. Really curious to see how well Mitchell can do here. She came sort of out of nowhere to get the 500m time trial world record but, as far as I know, she doesn't have a ton of experience.
  15. In extremely unsurprising news Laurel Hubbard has announced her retirement.
  16. I don't think Mayer made up enough ground on Warner on the shot put.
  17. Poland may have won the contest for best wordplay (POL/SKA) on a skateboarding uniform, tho.
  18. First ever Olympic victory in wrestling by . San Marino has done a great job developing wrestlers by... lucking out that a good American wrestler happened to have a great-grandmother form San Marino :P
  19. These 400mh world records are endangered species.
  20. Both Vincent and LVL won their heats in the women's C-1 200m. They didn't have the fastest times among heat winners, but I don't think we can read too much into that.
  21. We'll count that as a honorary fourth place.
  22. I'd offer sympathy, but Canada's two summer golds in team sports are both from 1904, so we don't even have video of them. (Not counting the ice hockey gold from 1920, since that later became a winter Olympic sport)
  23. Me, 30 minutes ago: there is no way anyone has a more disappointing Olympics than the Canadian women in beach volleyball. Turns out I was wrong. That's a gut punch for Poland
  24. At least Canada doesn’t have the worst volleyball disappointed of the day (commiseration with our Polish friends)
