Gladiator, but it’s not really a historical film as much as a drama. I remember watching “The Eagle” too, but again that took place mostly in Britannia.

I’ve heard of the term “Roman Salute”, but I just thought it was the Italian name for the Nazi salute.

Yeah, other than soccer Americans are pretty weak in European history as well even though fascism has had quite a prominent role in the last century ;)

Cicero who provides a written evidence about the Roman salute lived 2,000 years before Mussolini & Hitler :p

She is a better hard court player I think. Beat Rybakina in the final of Shenzhen at the start of the year.

She'd be better at the almost defunct indoor carpet surface. Clay is where she struggles which probably explains the Palermo & Prague flop in general.

Is there a difference? (I’m genuinely asking as I didn’t know there was two different salutes)

Hitler "adopted" the Roman salute as well as the swastika (sign of good luck in ancient Rome) when he came to power. As a failed painter Hitler was always a fan of ancient Roman/classical art.

I supose you didn't watch any movies staged in ancient Rome in your life? ;)

Nazi salutes are worse, but I’m not all that familiar with the incident you shared. Obviously, I’ve seen the video, but I don’t know a lot of the context around it. Slovan seems to have a pattern a Neo-Nazi ultras, so that’s why I said they’d be competition.

Yeah, I don't expect any American to have a serious knowledge on soccer after all. It's obviously very different in Europe. Paolo Di Canio is an open fascist and his Roman salute after a Lazio game caused an uproar back in 2005. Lazio's supporters are well known far-right extremists for many years and if you had more knowledge on soccer you'd probably be #1 Lazio critic here.

This article gets it wrong on lack of black players at Lazio back then though since Fabio Liverani (mother from Somalia) played for them and I have no idea why he's not included. Things have changed in the last 15 years but Lazio fans' fascism has not ;)

Slovan represents stiff competition for them, as I seem to remember Slovan unveiling a “White Lives Matter” banner earlier this year.

Yeah, well, Slovakia is a predominantly white population like all Slavic countries after all. I would have thought Nazi/facist salutes are worst than everything Slovan does but guess not :p

  6. No offense to Canucks but I preferred their old color scheme - even with this hideous 1980s jerseys. This literally looked like stuff from Star Trek goons wardrobe or something.

The modern jerseys are basically a rip-off from the Hartford Whalers IMO (yeah, I'm old enough to actually remember that team).

Welsh League did not always exist: was only set up in 1992.  Once it was set up, teams had to calculate based in their history, fanbase etc whether it was better to be in one or the other system.  Some clubs that had only ever been in regional Leagues in England transferred to the Welsh League, but the big names - Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham - obviously preferred to stay in the FA.

Well, Cardiff and Swansea finally made it into EPL but Wrexham couldn't even stay in the top four tiers which must be considered a major disappointement.

Yeah...I wouldn’t be so sure that democratic-socialism is done just yet. I know the U.S. House races don’t get a lot of attention, but progressives are upsetting moderates and liberals left and right in those primaries.

International opinion doesn't really care about the Congress elections like you say. Besides, anything can be struck down by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile President is one office that always gathers international attention and first Obama said Democrats shouldn't lean too far left and if Biden wins that's game over for Bernie's Army since there's usually zero competition for a sitting President and Sanders is too old to make a genuine run in 8 years time.

One small exception is Scotland, where one English team plays - Berwick Rangers - who are about 70km from the nearest other English team.  I think there’s also N.Irish teams playing in the Irish system.  But obviously all this is because the four British systems existed long before any other organistion.

Doesn't Wrexham play in the English league too? I really wonder whether English fifth tier is better than presumably dominating the Welsh league. Maybe it's too late for a change now.

  10. Only Republican candidates (Trump) can be too old for the office :p Biden is four years older than Trump so it's just another case of liberal hypocrisy. Then again, if Biden wins that means we're finally done with the Bernie Sanders sociallist nonsense.

not that Football, Basketball and Hockey don't have stupid unwritten rules, too...

try to score a TD on the last snap of a game when you're ahead in the score in Football...those Baseball brawls would easily disappear in front of what would happen in such case...

Football has some of the most crazy goal celebrations... compare this to not staring down a home run in baseball - especially when baseball basically heads down the home run derby script these days

Basketball has gone so ultra soft it's laughable. James Harden would have his ribs broken by Bill Laimbeer if he tried his flopping shtick 30 years ago.
