2nd medal for Serbia today, well done Krasnići
I suppose Krasniqi doesn't want to represent Serbia though?

7 of the 8 Europeans to fight at that weight today have lost.
The only one to win was Walker of
and he only beat
No European has won against another continent at feather.
The smaller weights are usually dominated by Asians & Latin Americans anyway. It's not that surprising Europe struggles so much. Don't expect anything different in flyweight either.

Yeah, this wasn't really an upset. Though I can imagine silver in judo for Japan will be received as a failure no matter what.

beats
by split decision. That was deserved due to a cross hook knockdown in R1.

Happy for Daria Bilodid too

Every judo match i watched today went to a golden score. Didn't know judo had so many "goalless" matches in regular time.
Since they removed the yuko score those golden score overtimes have become more frequent at the sharp end of the field (and yuko could have been gained through penalties just like koka which is gone for 13 years now).

Two-time World Championship featherweight bronze medallist
Peter McGrail is out in R32 already

Pogacar & van Aert with minor medals. Big guns sort of all delivered.

Carapaz goes for it.

17 years old? No wonder nobody expected this coming

Kwiatkowski has some life. Takes ING buddy Carapaz with him.

Roglic tailing off...
Kwiatkowski still hanging on.

Pang Wei sneaks into another medal as the Ukrainian choked.

25-4.
Scoring over 20 goals in waterpolo indicates it was probably a blowout?

Karolina Koszewska won her first fight.

I see those stereotypes about Iran are still very much alive

The pictograms segment was the best part of the ceremony.
Unfortunately I haven't found online yet the video of this part!
Very disappointed by Italy's outfit: really ugly. I still can't believe they are Armani.
Found a two-part on twitter. I'm sure the whole segment will resurface on YT sooner or later

As an educator, I'll just say I'm happy Monzanator is not a colleague of mine having that outlook on "99% of people"
This is the ugly truth. We've seen this with Tibet at Beijing OG 2008. Nobody cares about Tibet anymore, it's been ruled out as a lost cause by just about everyone. How Japanese people treat Japanese citizens with only one Japanese parent is totally up to Japanese people (surprise, surprise). Japan survived 200+ years of the Sakoku policy, they are master isolationists and will be just fine without the world's approval.

Which Japanese don't really say very often anyway because it's more like a farewell.
And even less people even know that. At the end of the day people will go back to their own things no matter what happens. This is how life goes.

Of course with that mindset you're underestimating how many generally interested people there are educating themselves and looking up new words once they don't know something, like me.
And in five weeks nobody will remember those words again
And we'll go back to 'Sayonara' being the most popular Japanese word globally

Having a hāfu light the torch is pretty bold.
Well, it's a global event after all. 99% of people in the world have no clue what a hafu is and they don't care about that either.
