Men's Rugby WR World Cup 2023

Recommended Posts

That was a tough one for Fiji.

Glad they’ve won but TV here says a penalty before the kick for 10-9 was not correct. And this moment was gamechanger.

anyway, looks like Flying Fijians will go to QFs!!!

Clearly victory with Chile, logical one, i hope, it wont be the only participation of them in a world cup.

Don't think it will be - I think it's VERY likely we're going to some form of 24 team world cup, possibly with plate and shield competitions

And the extra 4 places, I think Americas get 2, Africa and Asia get 1/2 each and probably Europe gets 1

I honestly think world rugby would be VERY keen, prior to the first World Cup in the Americas to get as many Americas teams as possible - Arg, Uru, Chi, USA and Can

May 30th 1995: South Africa - Romania 21-8 (Pool A)

Even though a loss, this is the closest result of Romania with the rugby union giants.

I could only hope sometime in the future we could get there again.

This generation is compromised....

Future generations are not particularly promising either ...

U20 Championship 2022 : 5th/8 with a loss to Belgium 18-6, wins against Czechia 33-10 and Poland 34-9.

U18 Championship 2022 : 8th/8 with losses to Spain 102-0 (no typo here), Germany 27-17 and Czechia 10-8.

And their exposition to pro rugby will be way less than what used to be for Romanian players back in the days, like, just a decade back.

Foreign(French)-based Romanian players in RWC squads :

  1st tier  2nd tier  3rd tier 4th tier 5th tier Total
2011 4 2 3 0 1 10/31
2015 5 6 0 0 0 11/31
2023 0 4 3 2 1 10/33

Fun game this was :d In the end was rooting for Samoa, sadly no history for them tonight, well done to England, winning a WC match while playing at some 30% is quite impressive

    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
