Is this the last individual event where athletes can directly qualify for the Games? It sure is for Hungarians. The long process of Olympic qualification is nearing its conclusion.

Edit: Nope, it's not, I just saw that there's the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup one week later.

Kind of unfair that Setubal always gets to host this.

Conditions do play their part, and Setubal favors those who like cold oceans and swimming in bodysuits.

What's kind of crazy to me is that there are only two chances to qualify in open water swimming. Would be way better if they used some kind of ranking system imo.

I agree...they should grant nominal quota to the world champions and then give the remaining quota available away using their wonderful and well organized 10k races world series...

there, you really see the best specialists in the last 12/24 months and you're basically sure to not let any of the best out for a bad day or an injury (that happened 1 or 2 years before the Olympic event)...

Well it was not Setúbal, but someone gave up organizing because of COVID.!!!

Kynigakis was 13th at the 2019 World Championships, really hope he can find a way to qualify here. Would be a shame for Greece to have no one to continue Gianniotis' legacy.

No Oceania nation is competing in the women's 10km so the quota will be reallocated to the next highest ranked eligible athlete (same thing may apply for the men if Australia finishes in the top 9).
