Thank you, this ranking is such unclear that not easy to understand well.

I've forgotten Likharad though saw it last week.

Can we find somewhere the Fajr Cup results? Last year it was not easy, as i remember

there are news here that Kazakhstan doesn't want to host the Asian Championships in April and the competition is about to be cancelled.

that will be a terrible terrible news for some Asian weightlifters regarding the Olympic qualification, specially for Iran. the whole plan was to get Moradi ready to set the necessary record in April. if they cancel the Asian Champs. there is no other tournament in April   even March is almost empty. there is just one tournament in Colombia !!

but this is not important for China to participate, they already have enough points to qualify a full team, maybe they can have the competition without China ?!

Kazakhstan can decide whether cancel or postpone it at the end of March. Things change rapidly. If the outbreak is still severe that time, they can ban China just like what the Philippines did right now. China don't care that much because it's not Olympic related.

March ? the scheduled date is April, and they can't postpone it because April is the deadline for Olympic Qualification. I assume and hope things will be much better about the virus outbreak in April

but I was checking the ranking, Chinese weightlifters already participated enough tournaments for the Olympics qualification, they simply can withdraw for the Asian Championships. I'm sure they don't care about Asian Championships medals.

and beside that if the tournament gets cancelled there is another solution, they can let Asian weightlifters to participate in other continental Championships. that happened before in 2016.

New IWF guidelines will allow athletes to compete at a different continental championships in April if their own championships are affected by the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.

The ability to switch to a different competition is not automatically granted and is only available to athletes who are:

  • Registered for their own continental championships
  • Still eligible for Olympic qualification
  • In compliance with whereabouts and other anti-doping requirements
  • Able to arrange travel and visa to the host country

Requests will be considered by a special working group of senior IWF commission chairs and will also have to be approved by the host country of the competition. However, entry deadlines will be relaxed so we could see changes relatively close to the competitions themselves.

IWF finally updated its Olympic ranking with some recent results. the only remaining events are 3 in Cuba, USA and Colombia (Cuba and USA events are already done, I don't have their results though) + continental championships

checking the results @heywoodu favorite athlete Om Yun-Chol still needs 2 more results to qualify. since the start of COVID-19 outbreak PRK didn't participate anywhere. even if PRK participates at the continental championships, Om still needs one more result. surely PRK didn't send a team to USA, did he participate in Cuba ? or has plans for Colombia event ? if not he is 100% out of the Olympics. he doesn't need anything special. just has to participate and lift something mediocre.

So PRK is in danger of qualifying a weightlifting team?

I don't think so. At least the women were smart enough to go to individual tournaments single handedly during qualification period. Some of them  just need to register and weigh in and lift a mediocre total.

    • I think Julia Tannheimer will continue to perform so well on the flatter courses in Ruhpolding and Antholz, which will suit her technique. Oberhof will be more exciting, the courses are very demanding, but quite comparable to the World Championships in Lenzerheide. That's why I'm really looking forward to Oberhof this season. Anyone who can cope well with the courses in Oberhof should also be able to run at the front at the World Championships.

    • Thanks for your predictions, they are very interesting.   But here it will be a different format. Combined events - pairs of athletes, one male/female will perform in downhill and other will perform in slalom. E.g. Team SUI 1 Odermatt plus Meillard.
    • Interesting (optimistic) predictions for GB. Don‘t See Them winning 5 golds (more than China and as many as Canada). I think 3 golds are more Realistic (Brookes + 2 in curling/skeleton). Especially gold for Bankes seems To be a rather optimistic prediction, given that Casta is 11 years younger and just beat Bankes.

    • I don’t think that Scattolo would be slower/less competitive than multiple of your current starters, so as an Italian Coach I would Definitely give her a Chance in The World Cup.
