Artistic Gymnastics Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

Eurpean quota for Russia is wrong: An NOC who qualified a team in Criteria 1 (2018 World Championships – Team Final) or 2 (2019 World Championships – Team Qualification) and qualified two (2) additional individuals in Criteria 5 (Individual Apparatus World Cup Series) and 6 (Individual All-Around World Cup Series) may participate, but may NOT qualify an additional quota place for his/her NOC through the Continental Championships.
Is exatly the case of Russia.

It is not. *Currently* Russia has only qualified through the all-around World Cup series. The apparatus WC series has not been concluded yet and the quotas have not been announced/accepted by the NOCs yet. If Russia declines the apparatus WC quota, then they will have only one gymnast qualified through the all-around WC series and could, theoretically, still accept the quota from the European Championships.

Italians are anxious and eager for the continental quota, I know, but it depends on whether Russia will choose to take it or not.

Artistic Gymnastics American Championships 2021

Men's Individual All-Around

:USA Paul Juda
:BRA Diogo Soares

Quotas are non-nominative because both countries qualified a full team at the World Championships. So, both :USA and :BRA are free to send who they want to the Olympics with these quotas.

I'm positive Brazil will send Soares, but maybe they could pick him for the team and relegate Zanetti to the "specialist" spot?

The US will almost certainly use this spot for a specialist.

I'm not sure if this is the most logical thing to do. The team absolutely needs his score on rings. Maybe Nory could get this extra spot, I guess?

Team line up:

FX: Zanetti, Diogo, Caio
PH: Diogo, Barretto, Caio
SR: Zanetti, Caio, Diogo
VT: Caio, Diogo, Zanetti
PB: Caio, Diogo, Barretto
HB: Caio, Diogo, Barretto

Extra quota: Nory

The :GBR women's team will be announced later today but the names have been leaked.

Beckie Downie has not picked.

Instead it will be the Gavrilova sisters, Kinsella and Morgan.

I hope that with Gismondi will be different, especially since she was already a great talent in her junior years. The problem in Italy is that for the past 15 years, aside from Pellegrino, there has been a miss of stability in other athletes: there are some booms of excellent form, but later they disappear. I also worry that funding for cross-country skiing will be cut after the Cortina Olympics.
