Curios, but this was the German quota that I expected the most. Fortunately I did not bet.

south korea is the surprise of the day, i also saw germany in the 4 qualifiers

Lack of competition over the past twelve months really seems to have hurt the divers. Even the Chinese are far from their best.

Yes, I agree with about lack of competition; still some of these pairs have competed together for years and have made some pretty "amateur" mistakes I'd expect from a competitor from Yemen or Tuvalu.

Great results for Italy and Germany in women's 3m synchro

Sad about Russia though, but that 4th (like with most other contenders in that same round) and 5th dives were their death.

Can't say too much about men's 10m synchro since I haven't see the footage, but if that mediocre performance by Garcia (Willars is still making the transition from Jr. to Sr.) was enough for Silver, I can say I really hope Mexico is banned from attending Tokyo if the federation insist in sending him just because his partner is friends with the Goverment undersecretary.

Also glad Koreans will debut in synchro and that shall create room for two divers from other countries  to attend Tokyo.

Nice bronze medal by Canada's men. They kept their dives relatively simple (their most difficult was a 3.4), but did them well.

These team shall be a true contender for Tokyo if they continue to evolve. I'm really glad they earned their quota with solid executions.

    • In the end, Team Shuster did pull out the W for the Men in the Finals.  His opponent, Team Stopera, is the one that Korey Dropkin led before exiting to compete in XD for MiCo.   And for the Women, Team (Delaney) Strouse won, taking out Team Cousins (who was the #1 seed).  I don't know much about her or her team.  Per Wikipedia, in 2022, she won Bronze in the World Juniors.  Will see both these teams at Worlds later this month!    Let's go  !   Here's a pic from the Strouse/Cousins Page Final 1v2 game:   A couple of other pics from last night:   (Tonight, Chris Plys joined the other two in having sleeveless jerseys.)   A zoomed-out pic of the coliseum where we were.  Fairly low attended, just about 200 people maybe.  (Same for tonight's final.)

    • Tentoglou won the men's long jump with 8.22. He only had two valid jumps today.   Another U20NR came in the women's shot put from Maria Rafailidou. She had 16.53 earlier this week and now got 16.59. She's second in the world for U20 this year    So of course Karalis was the big star of our nationals this year, more than Tentoglou, but we also had a lot of teenagers show good signs for the future (Antonatou, Alivizatos, Mitropoulou, Iakovaki, Rafailidou etc).   Antonatou and Alivizatos are both from Kefalonia island. Antonatou's brother is a shot putter who is 19 yo and had a new PB yesterday of 17.92 in the NCAA. I don't remember us ever having any strong athletes from Kefalonia in any sport aside from the late Anna Pollatou who won an Olympic bronze in rhythmic gymnastics. What are they feeding these kids on this island (it only has about 35.000 residents)?! Very impressive.
