How many medals do you expect from your Nation at the 2020 Olympics? (2021 "A" version)

It's quite consistent to my prediction. Mine is 89 medals and 36 golds. It predicts 85 medals and 38 golds. I really wanna know the breakdown of the table.

One used to be able to click on the country and see a list of all medals, not anymore :(

Oh well, the most fun about the VMT is usually the people discussing all full of fire and sometimes even anger or frustration, whereas it's really nothing more than something to fill the time instead of a serious prediction for events :d (that's how Gracenote itself sees it though, of course, but surely we know better :p )

Yeah. You need to pay for the breakdowns now unless media cares about it. Swedish media has reported the medals set for Sweden
https://www.svt.se/sport/tokyo-2020/statistiken-visar-sverige-gor-sitt-basta-os-i-modern-tid

But yeah, it's not really anything but a small, fun thing to spend 10 minutes on at the 100-days mark :p

:KAZ  1-5-10 :p

I am more interseted by the 2022 WOG predictions.

:AUS  monobob gold ahead of USA silver & Bronze :d

Norway winning 25 golds

Switzerland winning 9 golds

and I find it funny how they insist that all 3 medals of Poland will be only silver

14-22 medals

Athletics  0-1 Men's Hammer Throw (Halász Bence)

Basketball 0-1 ( If qualified, 3*3 Women's Team)

Canoe Sprint 5-6 (3-4 Women's kayak, 1 women's canoe, 1 men's kayak)

Fencing 1-2 ( Men's and Women's Sabre Team, Szilagyi, Szatmari, Pusztai and Marton Individual Sabre, Siklósi Individual Epée )

Judo 0-1 ( Tóth Krisztián or Karakas Hedvig)

Modern Pentathlon 0-1

Sailing 0-1 (Men's Finn)

Shooting 1 (Peni, Sidi, Major and if qualified Dénes, 10m rifle team)

Swimming 5-6 ( Milak 100/200 fly 100/200/400 free, Hosszú(?) 200/400 medley, Kapás 200 fly, Rasovszky 10km, maybe Verrasztő 400 medley, Kenderesi 200 fly and maybe maybe Szabó 100 fly)

Waterpolo 1

Wrestling 1 (Lőrinc Tamás,  Lőrinc Viktor and Muszukaev)

I think 5-6 medals in swimming is only realistic if Hosszu gets back close to her best (sub 4:32 and sub 2:08). Other athletes should combine for 2-4 medals. 2 medals for Milak and then maybe 1-2 medals for Kesely, Kenderesi and maybe Rasovszky.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

I expect 3-4:

Rowing:           1-2

Gymnastics    0-1

Boxing             0-2

Taekwando     0-1

Sailing              0-1

Then again I expected 3-4 in Boxing alone in Rio and we got none.

In the Women's 200m Breaststroke add South Africa's Tatjana Schoenmaker. She just posted a 2:20 at their Olympic Trials and is a current world championship medalist too. She could well win the gold there and a grab another medal in the 100m.

She could definitely medal in both, but obviously she doesn’t belong on that list. There are multiple other woman who could swim between 2:20 and 2:21. I guess you didn’t really get what my list was about.

Kind of sad that even I could make better predictions than French media.

Your men’s 400 free relay 99.999 % won’t win silver. Olivier winning gold would also be a shock, given that both Wellbrock and Paltrinieri have far superior speed. Manaudou should win silver and maybe you will win a medal in men’s 800 free.

You can justify predicting gold for Mayer, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable about it. Predicting medals in women’s hammer throw and for grandpa Diniz also seems questionable. I would rather predict a medal in men’s pole vault and/or men’s 110 m hurdles.

Personally I am very pessimistic about Hosszú. Maybe she will pull through and win a medal like how László Cseh did at multiple Games where he wasn't at his best, but I have a bad feeling about where this is going for Hosszú. It's like Dániel Gyurta before Rio, except it might be an even worse situtation. Maybe the European Championships will paint a different picture, we will see. I also have a bad feeling about Késely, she lost a lot of her motivation when the Games got delayed and it still shows.

    • so, the 2025 season is officially over, after the World Cup Finals have been completed with the Shotgun events, where (once again!!!) a new format for the final stage of each event has been experimented for the first time (before it becomes a regular feature in the next season)   the new format enlarge the starting field in each event's final stage to 8 shooters and dramatically shortens the number of target shots to decide the placings   the only characteristic remaining is the progressive eliminations principle   now, as written above, 8 shooters make the final, where after only 12 targets the eliminations start: by then, the last 2 shooters must leave the competition (7th and 8th ranked)   after 12 more targets (24 in total), 2 more shooters have to leave the final (5th and 6th ranked)   then, the crazy carousel starts: every 4 targets we have a new elimination  so, after 28 targets, the 4th ranked shooter is done; after 32 targets the bronze medallist is known and after only 36 targets (provided there's no need for a shoot-off), compared to the previous 60, the gold and silver medallists are crowned   I guess the tiktok people with the attention span of a chinchilla have won once again
