Here's how much Orbán's system changed Hungarian sport, the amount of money the sports are getting from the state are significantly higher, but our results at the main international events aren't getting better...

 

Team sports: 7.4 billion HUF between 2000 and 2010, 552 billion HUF between 2011 and 2020

 

Important individual sports: 38.5 billion HUF between 2000 and 2010, 678 billion between 2011 and 2020

 

Yes, you read that right, that's all state money, and it's a 7500% increase for team sports and 1900% increase for individual sports in Orbán's system.

 

In case you didn't get my frustration with handball, research shows this...

state money between 2011 and 2020: 223.77 billion HUF

 

And change in the rate of success between the two periods: -79%

 

Out of all the Hungarian sports it performed the worst, a complete failure compared to the 2000-2010 period. And at the same time Hungarian handball got an insane amount of money from the state.

 

Despite all the money poured into all of the major Olympic sports, Hungarian weightlifting and boxing are close to being complete dead. Hungarian wresting has a shrinking talent pool as well and it might join weightlifting and boxing soon. 

 

The only Olympic sports where everything is going well are swimming, fencing and water polo. Hungarian sports in general are in a downward trend, at the time of insane luxury where seemingly training sport coaches are more important for the state than medical professionals or teachers.

Not sure where to post this, but Greece is rewarding all athletes who finished in the top 8 in Paris. 30.000 euros for gold medalists, 20.000 for silver, 15.000 for bronze, and 10.000 for athletes finishing 4th-8th. If you were part of a team, then you only get half the amount.

 

So this means:

30.000-Apostolos Christou (20.000 + 10.000), Miltiadis Tentoglou

15.000-Emmanouil Karalis, Dauren Kurugliev, Eleftherios Petrounias, Theodoros Tselidis

10.000-Kristian Gkolomeev, Theodora Gkountoura, Emmanouela Katzouraki, Stefanos Ntouskos, Stefanos Tsitsipas

7.500-each member of Fitsiou/Kontou and Gkaidatzis/Papakonstantinou teams

5.000-each member of Anastasiadou/Bourmpou, Malkogeorgou/Platanioti, men's basketball, men's water polo, and women's water polo teams

 

It's nothing extravagant like other countries do, but some nice bonuses for these athletes, except of course Tsitsipas and the men's basketball players which really don't need this money.

Winter sports also include ice sports: hockey, skating, curling? I don't understand how you can cut the minimum funds for winter sports 1 year before the home games? Such miracles are only possible in Italy...

I checked Hungary's results at the 21st century Summer Olympics and they had a terrible result in 2008: 10 medals and only 3 gold. Maybe you remember what caused this collapse?

 

Btw., I saw lately a few polls recently where Tisza's party was leading in the polls in Hungary. Do you think a change of power is possible in your country?

no, as I wrote, Wintersports is FISI (Snow disciplines, Lugue, Bobsleigh, Skeleton)

all the Ice sports are a different federation (FISG) with separate funding, of course
