Modern Pentathlon at the Summer Olympic Games 2020

Recommended Posts

ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE.

Covid in July

Fractured ribs after falling off a horse less than three weeks before the Olympic start

A bad day in fencing, but a fabulous perfect score in riding

Laura Asadauskaitė does her magic again, running from 13th to 2nd and winning our very first medal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I honestly can't believe it, if it wasn't for that horse on drugs in Rio De Janeiro, this could have been a third Olympic medal in a row for Laura. What a phenomenal athlete that will be forever remembered in the history of women's modern pentathlon.

I don't know if she is aiming for Paris, it's only three years, perhaps she could do it, but she would be 40 in Paris :p

Gintarė Venčkauskaitė raced a beautiful race aswell, with another perfect 300 in riding and an absolute cracker of a race in the running+shooting.

You know shit is about to go down when you have Venčkauskaitė with a WR and Asadauskaitė with the OR in the last discipline.

This competition perfectly sums up the olympics for Germany. Even safe golds are lost somehow. At least it happened in one of the most pointless sports. How the hell do they randomly draw horses and accept that you are screwed when you get the wrong horse? The result (mainly) being determined by luck is the opposite of what sport should be. I guess in a world where boxing is still an olympic sport, modern pentathlon might as well get a free ride ...

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Obviously this is a farce. Thomas Bach OLY, 1976 Fencing champion, will not stand for this. Therefore, the Modern Pentathlon at the 2024 Olympics will be changed: Rocket League, FIFA, League of Legends, DOTA, Super Smash Bros.

Damn, I think that I could beat Asadauskaitė in this pentathlon

:GBR In a great position, especially with Lifanov having a shocking swimming leg.

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling. In 2024, Ukraine only won 1 silver medal at the Paris Olympics? So even domination in Europe doesn't guarantee even 1 gold medal at the Olympics. Although, of course, if Italy for example, can't even win 1 bronze medal at the European Championships, then there's no point in even going to the World Championships...
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
    • Track cycling is one of the few sports where there is no host nation quota, so  will need to work hard to achieve our quotas.  It's not our best sport, but was happy to see Top 10 results in the Elimination Race for Grant Koontz and Emma Jimenez Palos (who is just 18!).
    • Yes, I saw the same thing you did @clemsonbeav (on both accounts) but I agree it looks pretty stock.
