Tennessee State House voted to expel two members who joined gun control protests in the (state) capital last week. A shining moment for democracy

US conservatives being US conservatives. Luckily their leader down in Arkansas, you know, the governor, has her priorities in order.

Spoiler

"Government, give us nothing, none of your business. Of course except for when we need it, then pay 100% please." Wasn't Arkansas the state that outright refused government money to combat infant death and such last year?

And straight on to the more important issues that have to be tackled in the life of an Arkansas governor.

Biden is a complete senile fool but good luck on him putting that ban on international sports scene. Thankfully US government isn't that powerful to ride the transgender nonsense everywhere in the world.

Yeah, but they do have the power to bankrupt international sports governing bodies with lawsuits. Which is why it’s already impossible to enforce proper doping bans, for example.

Not really sharing this one for the political content, but more the storytelling. A very well written article that’s an easy read. I figure some of our Danish users might be interested in this one.

Personally, I love visiting Solvang (so many good bakeries, sights, and boutique shops), so seeing yet another community tear itself apart over culture clashes is sad :(

Yesterday, Imran Khan, ex-PM of Pakistan was arrested. Since then, his supporters have indulged in arson and rioting in quite a few places. They even stormed GHQ in Rawalpindi. Expecting Army reprisal to be brutal. Biggest questions are will Asim Munir impose martial law and take direct control or allow Shehbaz Sharif to continue as PM and will Imran survive this (not only politically but literally as well)?

There is a very small possibility that Imran does have enough support both nationally and in overseas Pakistani community to force Army to negotiation table.

Interestingly, in this power play, the ruling government has no role.

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
