[OFF TOPIC] Politics Thread

Before this year people had always taken the ballot from a public table before they go behind the curtain and vore in secret. Of course peppar who dont want to show others have taken ballots from several parties and then just left the not-used ballots aside.

If I understood correctly, it's exactly the same way it is done in France and non one ever complained about the lack of anonymity here :p By custom, everyone take multiple ballots before voting.

 Example:

I am liberal - jag är liberal

Liberals - liberalER

the liberals - liberalERNA

What's the difference between 'liberals' and 'the liberals'? :mumble:

The plot thickens.... back in the 80s the popular joke in Poland was Swedish is the hardest language to understand (obviously we wanted to be kind to Hungarians :p ).

As you can see on the picture fro Swewi each party have their own ballots. You pick the ballots for the party you want to vote for (I believe there are blanks as well as Sweden has quite a lot of write-in parties and candidates).

In the past, you could take the ballot on the voting location where people could more or less keep an eye on you and at some locations party member were even giving them to voters. You could always take the ballots from more parties to hide your selection, but it really still wasn't that good.
But I understand that this part has been improved, not having the ballots in public.

The reason for having the individual ballots and not a long list like most other countries is that the election laws are very liberal in Sweden. It's very easy to have your party in the election. The full ballot would be terribly long!
Just look at some of the parties up for election: Donald Duck's party, The least bad party, The poor man's party, Capitalism with a friendly face and Evil chicken party. Not to mention a handful of more or less extreme parties on both wings.

here in Italy there are normally hundreds of "parties", but we always have a single "origami-style" sheet (or should I write "piece of sh*t? :mumble:  :hairpull:) with all the symbols and names where you have to put your signature on the one you want to vote for, so nobody can't even imagine who you're going to choose...

A bit of an off topic discussion but you can say that for example ”my parents are liberals” : mina föräldrar är liberalER. Or ”five liberals” : fem liberalER.

But if you talk about ”the liberals is a group of politicians”: LiberalERNA är en grupp av politiker. :d

Do you still have the possibility to choose individual politicians withon the party? Our ballots are full of names instead of parties

Wow this is unique... If such system is used in Indonesia, I think they will be causing problems if you take another party's ballot in places where another party has a very strong presence

No, they changed the election law plus and plus time, but in the '90s they removed the possibility of write a "preferences" for a candidate. We can vote for our own individual candidate only at local elections

Right wing party SD Will Likely be 2nd or 3rd biggest with around 20% but even if they cooperate with other parties, the others on the right hand dont want them in the government so they will deifniately not have the Prince minister.

social democrats Will as always be largest but it is  50/50 between their current PM Magdalena Andersson and Moderates Ulf Kristersson who Will not be biggest party but they will have support from about 50% of the parlament each. The green party and liberals are just over the 4%-limit and if one of them (on different sides) would be relegated from the parlament that would be devastating for their PM candidate.

interesting this year that the liberal party ”Centerpartiet” who always cooperated with Moderates and Liberals and Christian democrates now support social democrates wchich also the left party does. Not that they are Alike, only that they dont want anything to do with SD.

But I dont think you can think lime that really. I vote for liberals but that doesnt mean I dont dislike SD a lot.

    • Basically, NOCs can attempt to qualify in additional events without gaining athlete quotas. For example, let's say a nation already qualified in the 4- and 4x, they can use the athletes they plan to send in those events and try to qualify in the 8+. That's where the extra coxswains will be used. If a nation intends to attempt to double-up they must let World Rowing know before the final qualifier regatta.   There's a good chance the quotas may not be used and will have to be reallocated. Looking at 2024, only  would have been eligible for the men while the women there's . With that said there's no guarantee they would have wanted to double-up their athletes.   In reality we are more likely to see the reverse, nations who qualified in the 4x, 4-, or 8+ doubling-up athletes for the 1x, 2x, 2-.
    • Hey everyone, how are you all?   Reading the qualification document here and the "3 quotas for additional coxswain" is very confusing to me. Can someone (try to) explain to me please how those quotas will be assigned?    Thank you so much

    • In a country as big as , the odds of Olympians being close to you are quite small; however, once I realized several months ago that even a state as small as mine hosts Olympians on occasion, I decided to scour each sport's calendar to make sure I caught them when they come around.  That led me to the middle of nowhere in my own state today, where there was a 4* Eventing competition, featuring a couple of Olympians and/or World Champion athletes.   Most all the athletes here were local or from USA, but there were a couple who compete for   or .  When we walked up, I had no idea what I was doing.  I thought I was in the right arena at the venue, but I didn't really see anyone there.  (There weren't any stands full of spectators, nor did I see any judges...it was time for dressage.). One of the ladies turned around and we struck up conversation.  Turns out I was in the right spot, and they were just on a short break.  She directed my attention to the upcoming athlete, Caroline Pamukcu.  Thanks to my research ahead of time, I knew she was on the Paris 2024 Eventing Team.  The lady we were talking with was the owner of the horse Caroline was riding.  After she finished with her dressage round, she got off the horse and was just standing there talking with her crew.  We went over and had a brief chat and one of the other ladies offered to take our picture.     I asked Caroline if she was aiming for LA28, and she said yes.  I've also since shown the girls and wifey the video from her Paris 2024 jumping competition.  Hope she makes the team this year!   (Caroline has a Gold Individual Eventing and Silver Team Eventing medal from the 2023 PanAms.  Boyd Martin from the Paris team was also there, himself having a WCh Silver and three gold PanAms.  Tamra Smith, who has a Silver from the 2022 WCh, was there as well.  Waylon Roberts, who represents  and has a PanAm Silver competed.  I saw a few more Dressage rounds, then watched them all do the Jumping.  Didn't get to see Cross-Country, but they'll have another similar event in October.)
