China is furious over Daiki Hashimoto's Gold medal in Men's overall Gymnastics. Chinese claim that the decision was totally unfair and Japanese cheated and openly stole the Gold Medal disgracing the spirit of Gymnastics.

Well it seems Japan as hosts must take some gold medals and events based on judge's decision for score are the best chance... Poor Osaka in tennis, points there aren't awarded according to judge decision

Seriously man, I couldn't believe when I saw the board displaying 14.066 after his routine..... Must have been stunning for Xiao, since even I was shocked as hell being a neutral here.

A very low scoring final - the winning score is wwell under 90 for the first time since the scoring changed. Back in 2016 the commentators in the UK were always going about how big it was for Max Whitlock to break 90 and how if Joe Frazier could get 88 he would be able to dream of a medal but in fact that would have secured one.

You do realize that because the code of points change every Olympic cycle each time we'll see lower scores?

It's the same for Women's, where Biles is (was?) the only one that could potentially hit 60, where in previous cycles that was easier.

Xiao had 0.5 less in difficulty than Hashimoto in the horizontal bar. The execution was similar: 8.366 for Xiao and 8.433 for Hashimoto. It all came down to who performed the most difficult skills and, in the end, Xiao lost. There was also a 0.3 penalty for Xiao, but penalties are always a fault commited by the gymnast himself. So, he only has himself to blame for losing the gold medal. China absolutely needs to improve the difficulty of their gymnasts' routines and hopefully do better next time. Let's stop the accusations without supporting evidence. Gymnastics is not skateboarding or surfing.

In 2016 each routine received a maximum of 2.5 in bonus for mandatory skills, but since 2017 this bonus was reduced to 2.0. So, multiply 0.5 by six routines and you have 3.0 points less in bonus points compared to 2016.

In 2016 the scores of the medalists were:

:JPN Uchimura: 92.365
:UKR Verniayev: 92.266
:GBR Whitlock: 90.641

This year the scores were:

:JPN Hashimoto: 88.465 (+3.0 = 91.465)
:CHN Xiao: 88.065 (+3.0 = 91.065)
:ROC Nagornyy: 88.031 (+3.0 = 91.031)

It was actually harder to win a medal this time than it was in 2016.

Do you think Japan’s vault really worthing 9.2 E score and total 14.7?

Maybe he was a bit over scored, but not much. His vault was high, distant from the table and his form is mostly very polished. The most apparent deductions I see are a slight pike off the table (-0.1), not hitting the center line/deviation in flight (-0.1), uncontrolled landing (-0.1) and large step (-0.3). There might be other deductions in dynamics and height that I'm not capable of correctly pointing out, and of course there was a penalty of -0.1 for stepping with one foot out of bounds. 14.7 is an acceptable score for that vault, especially because the same criteria seems to have been applied to everybody else.

Xiao was so excited after his horizontal bar routine that he forgot to salute to the judges and took a penalty of -0.3 in his final score. It's almost unbelievable that an experienced gymnast would forget about this in his final routine at the Olympics. Seriously, China has to reexamine their coaching staff because they're definitely not doing their job very well.

    • It's good that Argentina is starting to get back on track economically. Every year, all of our alpine skiing teams train in August in Argentina in Ushuaia: "Fine del Mundo", as it advertises itself.
    • The relation of Trump with Russia and, more specific, with Putin is probably the most controversial (being generous) thing of the presidence of Trump, i dont believe the same but is clearly that China help democrats in that election, both are playing their games.   In Argentina the society is clearly divided, the people who are in the left side of the politics, peronist and kirchnerism are very against the goverment, propably the only genuine "rigth-wing" goverment since the recovery of the democracy in 1983. For me and the most part who are in the rigth wing: libertarians, nacionalist and conservatives, is probably the best goverment we see to this days, he made in his first year with a very few legislators in the congress some big and good changes:   1) In the economical: the inflation is only 3% per month since a more of 15% in the last months of the last year, Argentina has now fiscal, financial and comercial surplus-   2) Our country didnt have fighter planes and the goverment buy 24  American F16  -   3) He changes the electoral sistem for a "single ballot" sistem, we have an obsolete electoral sistem that doesnt change from the 19 century and specially, the peronist use for make fraud.   4) In my personal case, he really update the tax sistem for small/medium profesionals and traders.......and that save us to pay the 50% of our earnings to the state.   With a big expectations in the goverment, its better than i thinked before.
    • It could be better, or it could be much worse, for example, if the accusations that he has been accepting large amounts of money from Russia since 2017 are confirmed. Now let Harris win, which will end Trump's political career and I hope that in 4 years the Republicans will put up someone more predictable.     btw, how is this controversial president of Argentina doing?
    • More predictable is not always better, for me the goverment of Biden was one of the worst of the History of USA and i cant imagine what can happen with even a worse version like Harris is.   I hope, for the contrary, Trump be elected and "may be" the things changes for the better in the world.
    • I once read that Harris had never been to Europe before 2020, when she became vice president. On the other hand, her foreign policy will be more predictable, because it will be a continuation of Biden's policies. That is why I hope Harris wins, although the bookmakers are betting on Trump.
    • Harris is totally green on foreign policy. It will probably be a policy 100% led by Biden's people. Harris' main campaign emphasis is on abortion and women's rights.
    • So much for "everybody's laughing at us if we elect Harris"
