News on the programme for Paris 2024

https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1065085/kiteboarding-set-to-appear-at-paris-2024-olympics

Quote

Kiteboarding is set to make its Summer Olympic debut in Marseille at Paris 2024 after being approved as one of the 10 sailing events on the programme.

This decision followed lengthy discussions at a Mid-Year Meeting of World Sailing at Stamford Bridge football stadium in London.

Male and female windsurfing and mixed one and two-person dinghy events were also approved to join the five classes already proposed.

The exact equipment and format will not be confirmed until later this year.

But it seems likely that the windsurfing class will remain RS:X while both the Finn and 470 will feature in the one and two-person dinghy events - possibly as part an innovative new relay format.

If the 470 went to became a mixed event like Nacra, with a crew of 1 men and 1 woman, I wouldn't be pissed, to be honest. I never understood the difference between 470 and 49er ship, so if 470 becames mixed I'm happy and fits for me.

About the Finn being mixed, I don't know. Really, if it is a team event I would love to see mixed regatas, and the result points are added to a team, could make for a more interesting event than individuals cause two ships are involved per country and anything can happend.

Mixed kite, meh. It's a different enough event to all the other sailing classes, I really hope IOC would give World Sailing one more medal event so they can have different sexes events in this one and made a great debut at the games.

From what I read, it will most likely be a mix where it'll be finn for men and Europe for the women

    • The only ones complaining about the short track refs are Italians, imo. Not even on this forum, but in general, from what I've been seeing on live chats and other social media sites. That says a lot to be honest. I suspect it's partially due to them not performing to the high standard they're expected to perform at especially at the Olympics. The refs make a lot of mistakes for everyone, there's no bias against or towards anyone    Plus, Italy have won 6 medals already.... the most you've won at a Worlds since 2016.
    • For me they gave Canada the gold in the relay in exchange for a 1000-meter dsq gold for Dandjinou, that's how I see it. It was a battle between Kor and Can on 2 of this case. It's hard to say why that last dsq for Kor was in relay? Of course, Italy win bronze thanks for that, but that's not really important. It would have been better if the referees had just stayed out of the results and left it as it was decided for fight on the ice.

    • the quata for europe or australia is from the primer 12, where the top 20 teams will participate, sadly  is the 21th team so the only slight chance for us in my opinion is if: we get top 2 at the european championship (not including  hopefully if they get the quata), then somehow win the final qualification tournament against i assume  and one of    the chances for us are slim, i think about 4 other team sports  have a better chance in in my opinion(and the most team sports we ever had was one, and it was the last two time after a long time )

    • well, Cuba and Venezuela for sure...   Iran is a different question, but I hope in 2 years all this war shit is done and dusted and at least in the sports world everything is gonna be OK
    • In my opinion the Italian team has been playing above expectations since last year after several years of decline. Last year, we advanced to the first division at the European Championships and now they're playing very close matches against the strong India and Scotland. We a little miss a potential to do more – we are only 18th in the world rankings. Our men's team's performance in this sport is much weaker.
