it seems the King of doping, ilya Ilyin will comeback to the competition for the World Championship this year ! he will participate at the non-Olympic weight of 102kg !

Speaking of the World Championship, Iran will have a very weak team this time. out of our World/Olympic Champions. Salimi announced retirement (at the age of 29) after the Asian Games, the idiot genius Rostami will take a break, Saeid Mohammadpour was injured the whole year (I think he is done with weightlifting after back to back injuries) and Saeid Alihosseini is a bit injured. so looks like Sohrab Moradi is the only big name remaining.

we were VERY upset when IWF announced the new Olympic qualification system which limits Iran to only 2 weightlifters ! (even though IWF is going to review that later this year but probably no change) but it seems after all we won't have more than two competitive weightlifters when it comes to Tokyo :d

I don't follow this sport so I'm confused now: if he's a repeated doper, why has he not been banned for life?

If I'm not mistaken it counts as one offence (the issue with Ilin is that both his samples from 2008 and 2012, both Olympic gold medals for him, turned out dirty two years ago). Or more specifically, as one suspension, and one can't immediately get banned for the first suspension.

well this is how IWF explaining it

https://www.iwf.net/2018/01/23/iwf-sanction-ilya-ilyin-maximum-allowed-world-anti-doping-code/

and funny that he didn't lose any other medal except only 2 Olympic gold medals.he didn't lose his world records as well.

I admit he is a cool guy. and a great weightlifter (despite his doping story) but everybody knew there is something wrong about him. in 2015 he didn't go to USA for the World Championships instead he went to a low level competition in Russia (only few days after the Worlds) and broke the World Record there ! if he was that ready why not breaking the World Record in the World Championship ?! the answer was easy, he didn't want to take a test in USA.

    • Few observations from the Globes.   Nikki Glaser had a nice opening monologue, but everything afterwards was bad. Plus i don't know what the make-up people did to her face, but i thought i was watching a wax figure.. But she changed 10 dresses showing us more of her cleavage, so that was a plus i guess.    This was probably not only the worst Globes, but probably one of the worst major award ceremonies in structure and writing... Everything was so awful... - None of the presenter skits worked and many were just cringe; - The weird camera angles, that widened around the presenters completely showed the audience not giving any fucks about what they were saying and some hiding their facepalms even. I was specifically watching in the background, since in these award shows we only get the camera in the presenters face against the screen, so this was new, but i was astonished how little the people were paying attention.    - Not showing barely any clips, or even images from the movies / series (sadly this has become a modern tradition to "save time") - The idiotic showing of the nominees. Not only without images from their performances, but them in a small picture on the side, while the screen was a damn Google Map with an arrow on their placement. Like WHO CARES where they sit in the room, show the person on the full screen... Morons.   About the winners:   - Like pretty much all winners on the movie side, with the exception of Emilia Perez, which i don't like at all and don't think it deserves awards.. - Especially happy for The Brutalist and Fernanda Torres;   - Anora was being hyped so much. Watched it, absolutely hated the first half, picked up greatly in the second, but in the end an above average film 7/10 for me. Not getting anything yesterday was a bit surprising if you'd followed the race, but not saying i'm sorry for it. Madison did a great performance, but her stocks are falling for an Oscars win and she will probably settle for only the Nom.   - Ariana Grande does a nice job in fooling people, that she is a good singer (which she is not) and now that she is a good actress (which she is not). Someone is getting screwed if she gets an Oscars Nom..   - Pissed that they didn't have the DeMille and Burnett awards on the main show, because of "time", but we now have the nonsense Box Office and Stand-Up comedy awards.. Everyone would have preferred a tribute to Davis and Ted Danson with a recap of their careers, rather than 30 minutes of useless stuff.   On the TV side it was pretty much as expected. Stoked for Colin Farrell's win.

    • The Colturi case affair is becoming increasingly loud in the Italian media. Yesterday commentators on the Italian public channel Rai began to openly say that they hope Lara will return to Italy and also criticize the terrible form of the Italian team in the women's slalom. I`m very happy about this, because the louder this affair is, the greater the pressure will be on the Italian federation to come to an agreement with the Colturi team (pressure from CONI, the ministry and maybe even higher).

    • Hell no, our home track is Sigulda, and our only track is wooden and located in the small city of Kremenets. And despite that we had 2x 4th place from our skeletonist Vladyslav Heraskevych and bronze in luge team relay
