Chappuis suffered a injury in 2016-17 season. He had to end the season due to serious back pain.

In April 2017, doctors later found a benign bone tumour, which had to be surgically removed. A bone transplant was necessary as well.

He tried a comeback in March, where he came second in the French Championship. Later he decided to end his career.

The surgery and the feelings he has been going through in the process after the surgery, are probably some of the main reasons for his retirement.

On his facebook page he wrote: "This decision is the result of a long process, not without emotions, but liberating at the end."

:CZE ice hockey goalie Ondrej Pavelec has retired at the age of 31. The reason is that no team in NHL is interested in him anymore and he refused to play KHL or Czech league. Opinions?
