There's still a couple of chances remaining for Portugal in athletics with men's triple jump and women's discus throw, plus men's K1 1000m in canoeing

Yes, k1 1000m, men’s triple jump and judo (with Jorge Fonseca and Telma Monteiro) were my hopes for medals.

wasn’t counting on this one, neither on the super final result by Auriol in women’s shot put, super proud of them ?

When she flies out she needs to get a flight that goes via New York or Singapore because a direct flight Japan-Western Europe goes over Russian and Belarussian airspace.

Very few flights go over Belarus airspace anymore.

Can’t see Belarus pulling the kidnapping from a plane trick in Russia’s airspace - Putin won’t want Russian airspace put on an international embargo list just to help his less important ally.

Would be interesting to know when was the last time that some OR got broken in semifinals?

Moscow 1980?

I know in Athens 2004, Fani Halkia broke OR in 400m hurdles semifinal

For me easily the worst moment of the Olympic Games...

Not the worst, but completely ridiculous to allow the athletes to decide.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Very sad result in men’s long jump.

1) Tentoglou has an ugly style

2) His main competitors were injured

Do you ever have anything nice to say about anyone, ever? Serious question.

Also Tentoglou not only had WL but before the 6th jump, this was his worst competition of the entire season and even that shows how good he is to have been 5th at that point. Yes it wasn't such a strong final and some others were injured, but also 8.41 is the longest jump in an Olympic final since 2004, and here we had not one but TWO medalists jump 8.41m. Also prior to Tokyo, Tentoglou had the two biggest jumps in the world this year (8.60 and 8.48).

So if you consider this to be a "very sad result" then what do you think about the men's long jump finals in Beijing, London, Rio? 8.41 there would've won gold too.

About the shared gold, a jump-off with the current rules doesn't make much sense. It's not shooting, athletes get too tired to jump any higher and to decide the gold jumping again at lower and lower heights would be meh, worse than having two winners. If you don't want two golds, the only fair way would be a repeat the day after, with rested competitors- same for gymnastics and swimming (although there they could use thousands of seconds in extreme cases)

I can't remember when, but I have seen a jump off recently where they went down 4 or 5 heights and still nobody could get over, it was just humiliating.  Eventually they shook hands anyway.

    • Olivia Weaver was up 9-4 in the 5th game.  Hania El Hammamy  then scored 5 straight points to tie it up.  Then, took the lead with a sixth straight point, then won with a 7th straight point, taking the Sprott Tournament of Champions in New York.  Still, congrats to Weaver for bringing home second place!  (And congrats to El Hammamy...what a streak at the end!)
    • One thing working in our favor with Luge is that Women's Doubles is just one sled per NOC, so I like our chances there.  We'll be 3rd or 4th in the Relay (one of my favorite events)...if everyone slides cleanly, we'll probably be 4th, behind , , and ...but anything can happen in the relay.  (I think in my official predictions I had us 3rd.  Wishful thinking, I suppose.)
    • They can also just count DNSs to handle this specific situation.
    • I suspect IBSF will make the point system equal in the future regardless on the number of competitors.   My fear is that they will make the awarded points lower, like only 90 points to the winner to balance it out.
    • Olivia Asselin (freestyle skiing)   She was at the X Games competing this week. Another medal hope out the drain, she was in the form of her life
    • You'd have to ask her simpatic boyfriend from the USA about that, who is often seen at competitions with her participation
