Very sad for Pelle, another shocking loss for Italy after Omar and Doro?

No, with this track and this line up it' s not a big surprise as it' s not a big surprise Pfeiffer making mistakes in standing shooting because it's his weakness...

The team sprint looked like a pretty safe bet for a medal before the Olympics, but after what we have seen so far in Pyeongchang, 5th place is not really surprising. Nöckler has performed poorly in every event so far. Perhaps the best thing would have been trying someone else as Pellegrino's partner, like De Fabiani, but it would have been a risk anyway.

Yeah, Peiffer having to do a penalty lap in the relay was expected, it happens all the time.

With De Fabiani Italy would have won a medal, that is safe. Great future for Italy, only two good talents, but they can win many medals in the future. If Klaebo disappears, Pellegrino could dominate.

I don' t say it' s expected , i said that the standing shooting is his weakness that doesn't  mean he can't shoot clear (he did it in sprint and in other races) but sometimes he makes more than 1 mistake, also Windisch sometimes shoot clear (probably once a year) but in that day he is definetely a medal contender and in last 500 metres of relays or mass start is very difficult to beat, very, very difficult for everybody. In my opinion Pfeiffer's misses in prone shooting were a big surprise not in standing and in that situation of pressure.

Don' t be sarcastic, you know that Italy with De Fabiani wouldn' t have won a medal, and with only 2 good athletes the future is dark, very dark, considering also what was Italy in the 2000....

Well, De Fabiani is a superior athlete compared to Nöckler, but he's never been in a team sprint before. There's no way of knowing how he would perform. Still, I agree that taking the risk of choosing De Fabiani would have been wiser than insisting on Nöckler when he's clearly not at his best. Perhaps they also wanted to let De Fabiani rest before the 50 kms after his great showing in the relay.

As far as the future of Italian cross-country is concerned, as you say, we basically have two talents. The problem is there's nobody behind those two. De Fabiani also has to become more consistent if he wants to become a top athlete, he can podium in a race in which he is not a favourite and then finish 40th when you expect him to perform well.

    • Sport is not only about the Olympics (which is somehow ruined by the IOC, mixing it with the politics and for this specific sport limiting the number of athletes to just 16 per weight)   it was a great competition (despite having a terrible host) . yep the freestyle competition ended up very badly for our team but it was great pleasure watching Masanosuke Ono and likes of Abdulrashid Sadulaev, Jordan Burroughs, David Taylor and Zavur Uguev.   watching Masanosuke Ono itself makes my day.
    • Only WCh 2016 was worse than this one. I saw some great bouts but overall, this Ch was unnecessary.
    • There might be modern tracks for lots of sports in Ashgabat actually. They organised some Asian martial arts competition some time ago and for that they built all sort of megalomaniac infrastructures (you see the picture of the gigantic horse head? That’s part of the main stadium), all in white (there’s some rule from the president that everything needs to be white in that city), and all pretty much abandoned since that time.   According to the delusional/brainwashed local people we met, “all those investments are understandable because Ashgabat will organize the Olympic very soon”.    That’s because the dictator is obsessed with huge buildings, if you see my third last photo, that is actually an indoor ferry wheel (yes, it’s a thing apparently), the largest one in the world (Guiness world record), and it looked really abandoned. Me and my wife were the only ones going on it.   Everything in that country (but especially in Ashgabat) is bizarre.
    • Baku is a large resort. There is a modern track in cycling in Ashgabat. The World Championships were supposed to be held some years ago.
    • There are some government allowed routes that go to the West, but the usual one is just around the two main cities (Ashgabat and Mary) and then crossing the desert to that gas fire crater.   thats what I did, entered from the east from Bukhara (Uzbekistan) and left again to Uzbekistan but in the Khiva border.   Not sure how’s the caspian sea there, but the only time I saw it , in Azerbaijan, didn’t look very clean to swim.
    • ...and this is how I learned Costco sells poutine in Canada    Is it a food court item there, or something you buy and prepare at home?
    • I don't see any photos from the Caspian Sea? I wonder if there are swimming conditions there?
    • Some other fast swims today include a new commonwealth record by Duncan Scott in the 400m free and a European record in the 100m IM by Marchand. Watch out for some quick swims in the 200m free and 200m IM later on.
    • Last stop on this TISC Central Asia tour: Turkmenistan    One of the most closed and censored lands in the world, Turkmenistan is a place with incredible things to visit, with a beautiful desert landscape, historical ruins from ancient civilisations, and the unique "Door to Hell".   But it is also a country where everything is controlled and restricted (we had no access to social networks and tons of blocked websites, can only enter with invitation letter, with a predefined tour and accompanied by a guide at all times), with giant megalomaniac buildings created in order to maintain a cult of the leader and its regime. It basically felt like what i imagine is North Korea (but without the hate for americans).   It is eccentric, it is impressive, but above all, it is bizarre. Here is a patriotic catchy song i heard when was traveling there. .      Mähri Pirgulyýewa – Halkyň arkadagly zamanasy
