It got closer than expected to the host nation winning this event three times in a row.

It was expected alright.

Quote from Jasey-Jan Anderson about course conditions during qualifying: "you see people on TV with rakes, they should be using them instead of just standing on them" xD

Ester Ledecka the star of the Games ! :yes

We all knew what a talent she is, but this was just another level of fantasy. This wasn´t definitely the last thing we will hear from this girl

A lot of people on social media are wondering why the red course was so unfair xD

This is so stupid, they probably made the change for the "casual" viewers but they just made it more confusing for them.

If Canada was more cautious in curling they could even 1st place

Yes, if Canada would have won all events here, they probably would have won the medal table.

In the end canadians will be very happy with their results here, i doubt that anyone in Canada will be sad about this 3rd place. If Germany and/or Norway would have won some of their expected golds, this never would have gotten that close. Canada won enough surprising golds to make it almost close though and that should be really appreciated.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

All of Canada's golds were not surprising (maybe Leman's)

Shame for that mistake from Kosir while leading in the SFs, losing by +0.01 must be terrible. At least he got a bronze though.

Was hoping Fischnaller could take the medal, but he really should have posted a higher qualifying time to avoid Galmarini so fast. These two have been meeting constantly in early rounds it’s sort of like a curse, I was hoping today was his day but no.

Happy for Nevin, he’s obviously the best this year, so it’s good to see he didn’t succumb to the pressure.

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling. In 2024, Ukraine only won 1 silver medal at the Paris Olympics? So even domination in Europe doesn't guarantee even 1 gold medal at the Olympics. Although, of course, if Italy for example, can't even win 1 bronze medal at the European Championships, then there's no point in even going to the World Championships...
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
    • Track cycling is one of the few sports where there is no host nation quota, so  will need to work hard to achieve our quotas.  It's not our best sport, but was happy to see Top 10 results in the Elimination Race for Grant Koontz and Emma Jimenez Palos (who is just 18!).
    • Yes, I saw the same thing you did @clemsonbeav (on both accounts) but I agree it looks pretty stock.
