UWW has now 18 medal events.

How about:

4 men's freestyle

4 men's greco-roman

2 mens beach

6 women's freestyle

4 women beach

If they used the same athletes from Freestyle to Beach, I don't think IOC would oppose to giving them 2 more events so they'll have same events per gender.

Just four categories? That's not a difference of four steps:

-48 and +100

There are four categories in Taekwondo, even three in Karate.

It isn't ideal, but...

It isn't ideal, but...

lowest weight in Taekwondo 54kg, highest weight +87kg

lowest weight in Karate 60kg, highest +84kg

but

lowest in GR wrestling 55kg, highest 130kg

how you can have just 4 weights in 70kg range ?

and there is a big big difference here, in Taekwondo and Karate, bodyweight is not a big deal. it's not even important, it's mostly about height. they easily compete against someone 10kg heavier but that's impossible in wrestling. even 4-5kg difference matters a lot. 6 weight classes is already very low for men's wrestling. it's OK for women because there is only 26kg gap between highest and lowest weight. but 75kg gap is much much bigger.

No word on Artistic Swimming when it's their biggest problem when we talk about equality in the games.

If they boot the sport they would have room and quotas for everything else they are asking.....

There is obviously not enough swimming events at the moment :)

50m events probably have a good chance of being added, since they don’t technically require additional quotas.

It seems my High Diving prediction was right as well. I’m not sure the IOC will bite at this one though.

Women finally getting the 12 tournament in Water Polo would be nice too.

This seems kind of unnecesary to me. At the time there are not 12 good teams in the world

Swimming program is already packed even without the 50 m. Heck they should take back the 800 and 1500 they added last time. Only purpose of these events is to inflate the medal count of the big nations, without bringing anything new. Also, please no more mixed relays... Save these things for the WC.

Synchronized swimming could bite the dust only because it is Russia dominated. If it was US, UK, Japan, China, Canada, France etc. dominated there wouldn't be any talk of eliminating it.

Yes, 8 teams is enough for now, better to give those 52 qutoas to bring more quotas in some events in athletics or more events in karate/taekwondo.

There’s currently 10 women’s teams by the way.

We could use those quotas actually give Karate it’s full program of 2 Kata events and 10 Kumite events. Each event should only have 8 entries though, as is tradition for Karate at multi-sports games.

    • Greece and Portugal also have winter sports centres - but of course these are not homologated routes for World Cup competitions I have never been to Albania personally, so I don't know the country at all. I have been in southern Croatia, though, and there are mountains there but you definitely can't ski there (I was there in the summer, but it's also impossible in the winter). World cup taking place there only in Zagreb.    In general the case of Colturi and Kostelic is completely different: Colturi has no ties to Albania and Janica Kostelic was Croatian and didn't left their country even though at the beginning of her carrier (and also her brother Ivica) her father had to pay for everything and the federation's support was zero. This only changed later. I imagine that the Kostelic family had offers from other countries (Austria, Switzerland, Italy?) to compete for them, which were much richer (at the beginning of the 21st century Croatia was a very poor country and devastated by war). All the more respect for them because they were true Croatian patriots until the end. I can imagine the Colturi family in a similar situation... Her mother would probably negotiate with half of Alpine Europe for Lara to compete for them Which of course doesn't change the fact that the Italian federation completely gave a shit in this situation. They let such talent go in a situation where they hasn`t a single female athlete on the podium of the World Cup in slalom for a dozen or so years. In the giant slalom it's not much better either, only there the older athletes cloud the picture: Brignone and Bassino. However, behind these two there is absolutely nothing...
    • Atalanta is probably playing the most beautiful football in Europe right now: spectacular and effective. It's nice to watch and they don't have to spend a lot of money for it.   Inter is playing very economically. It's not impressive but it's consistently collecting points. It's also the only team in the Champions League that hasn't conceded a goal this season.   Milan played very poorly yesterday but they won. They have 9 points and are close to qualifying for the play-offs.
