Since the Netherlands is simply one of the better cycling countries? :p

Dumoulin now is kind of a new level, but there have been decent Dutch time trial riders for years (just like decent Dutch GC riders, classic riders and B-sprinters).

Still, before 2013 the only Dutch elite cyclist that got a time trial medal at Worlds was Leontien van Moorsel! :p

If you only look at world championships, yes, but quite often the stronger/better time trials are for example in Grand Tours and it's not uncommon to see Dutch riders in the top-10 there for a long time, it's more like there have been a few years that were worse than normal :p

Well in women's cycling there's a bit less specialisation, so it is (or at least was) a bit more common to see the main contenders also fight for ITT medals than in the men's races. And Dutch women have been either the top nation or the 2nd nation in cycling for a long time so seeing Van Vleuten and/or Van der Breggen on the podium now isn't that surprising, something like that was just a matter of time :p

As for the men, there have always been decent time trialists (Clement, Westra, Boom, Breukink etc), just now there is one who is actually among the 2-3 best in the world :d

What a shocking result in mens U23 road race. I was absolutely sure that Kämna will win the gold. He must feel devastated now, he threw away a safe gold in the time trial for this ...

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.
