Looking at the entry list…

For the men India, Iraq and Malaysia are safe though technically India could miss out should their final lifters finish with 0 and Syria over performs by a bit. Japan needs just 2 out of their final 4 lifters to finish. Despite being ranked in the top seven Philippines and Mongolia have no remaining lifters and will drop off the list (unless some crazy stuff happens). The last three spots will be between Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Turkmenistan. Sri Lanka would need very favourable results to have a chance. According to the entry list Syria is the odd nation out and has the hardest path where all four remaining lifters must finish at their listed rank, but a DNF for Kyrgyzstan in the -94kg or Turkmenistan in the +105kg (or even finishing 2nd out of eligible nations) could let Syria sneak in.

For the women India, Philippines, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are safe. Mongolia requires one of their three final lifters to finish where their entry list has them. The final spot will be between Turkmenistan and United Arab Emirates. The entry list has Turkmenistan winning by 1 and the pressure will be on the athlete in -75kg to finish 5th among unqualified nations as UAE can literally have their lifters lift with no weights and they’ll get the same amount of points.

It's interesting that things would be much more straightforward for Turkmenistan if their final lifter competed in +75 instead of -75. They would just have to finish ahead of UAE there, what wouldn't be any kind of a problem according to the entry weights. Meanwhile, in current scenario they need her to finish 5th (or better) and hope that none of the lifters in +75 bombs out. That is also likely but not as assuring.

+75kg group B just finished with the snatch and surprise surprise, one UAE girl is actually 1kg ahead of the girl from Iraq :yikes:

Edit: Never mind, the UAE girls are the only ones in +75kg, the rest is acting in 75kg which they combined because of the lack of competitors :d

Turkmenistani girl did what she had to. Now :TKM only needs to hope that none of the relevant lifters in +75 bombs out...

Meanwhile, :KSA had a horrible session today in B group of -94 as one of their lifters bombed out... This could be the end of their hopes.

Saudi Arabia should be fine if the other lifter did what he was suppose to do. Though they'll have to hope Syria doesn't overperform too much over the last three events.

I didn't realize that Saudi Arabia's other lifter didn't do as well as we was listed. This gives both Turkmenistan and Syria a chance to finish above them (along with Japan).

Guys, the whole calculations are pointless until they announce the final list of 2015 WC. by my count Japan will finish in top 24 after that, this can change the whole thing in Asian Qualifiers. does anybody calculate the scores without Japan ?

Yeah, Japan is likely qualifier through Worlds, if it even happens. They are running out of time for corrections...

There should be a fairly good chance that next best nation from here will qualify if Japan gets promoted, unless two or more nations tie on points or something.

Hopefully Syria can pull it off here. They are most likely going to compete only in athletics and swimming if they fail here, what would be sad.

    • For me 20 medals will be good. And if more there are? Super. However, I prefer not to get my hopes up too much, so as not to be disappointed later.
    • If you're still taking suggestions, I tought the following:   Team Madison format.   17 teams of 2 "riders", randomly drawn. Teams can be named for famous "endurance" track cyclists. 4 intermediate "sprints", one after a voting block, in which the top 8 teams will score according to this formula: (10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1). The order in which team score for a sprint are determined by the total number of "medals" won by both members of the team during the block. Ranking will be sorted according to the number of gold medals, then silver, then bronze. If there's two or more teams with same number of points, the medals of best individual performer of each team will be considered to break the tie. If the tie remains, then team's total points during the block will be used to break it. If the team fails to receive a single medal during each block, it will be considered to "lose lap" and 20 points will be substracted from their score. If the team fails to score at least 1 point during each block, it will be an automatic DNF for the team. If both members of the team get a medal from a single jury, it will be considered to "gain lap" and 20 points will be added to their score. A team can only win an additional lap per voting block. After the 4 intermediate, a "final" sprint will be recorded, in which points will be doubled (20, 16, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4 & 2). Ranking for the final sprint will take into account the total medals won during the event.   What do you think?
    • I don't medal pick, per se... I assign probabilities/expected-values and total them up. So I don't have a gold medal estimate... but if you want one, divide those numbers by three and you'll be pretty close!   I imagine Norway, Italy and Netherlands and maybe Canada will probably skew a bit higher on golds, and US, Germany, and Sweden will skew a little lower... so maybe: Norway - 14 US - 11 Germany - 11 Italy - 11 Canada - 10 Austria - 8 Netherlands - 8 Japan - 7 Sweden - 6 France.- 6   I was surprised seeing Italy come in that high, I was figuring 22-23, but I guess they've been do well on the World Cups.
    • If you were to predict top- 10 for the number of gold medals, what would it look like?     For me, as an Italian, any result for Italy: +20 medals would be OK (if that will include 6-7 gold medals). The trauma of Turin 2006 is too great
    • Doesn't really help that two of the strongest countries in that particular sport are banned from the team event for well known reasons.
