Women's short program is in progress, the opening event of WCh in Helsinki.

It looks like Chinese import competing for :SGP will probably make the free skate. Here's a chance for their first ever Winter Olympic qualification.

Spoke too soon. :SGP just missed out on free skate after some of the skaters later on excelled.

Anyway, this is the standings for Olympic qualification after short program

3 quotas - :RUS:CAN:USA

2 quotas - :ITA:JPN:KAZ

1 quota - :KOR:HUN:CHN:BEL:SVK:AUS:LAT:FRA:ARM

Kazakhstan is currently the biggest troll. They have 2 quotas since their sole skater here (Tursynbaeva) is currently in 10th place. Just enough to have two skaters provisionally, even though the level of other Kazakhs is much, much lower...

Well, I hope that doesn't happen, because even when Tursinbayeva deserves to be in the Olympics it will be unfair that her sole performance gives a place to some medium level skater, even if she barely manages to get minimum TES... Still she should watch of the Japanese girls, Bell (USA) and Choi (KOR), who in turn, could give her country a second spot.

Could Singapore qualify for Olympics here despite missing free skate?

It's possible, but unlikely.

Probably their best hope is that US girls currently in top 10 drop 2 places combined (for example finish 6th and 8th). Also, they will need either :ITA Kostner or :KAZ Tursynbaeva to be kicked out of top 10 by either Japanese or US skater that is currently outside of top 10 (Bell, Hongo, Mihara).

Other possibility is that both :ITA and :KAZ get kicked out of top 10 by Japanese and/or US skaters.
