Pairs Olympic qualification standings after short program - 16 quotas on offer.

3 quotas - :CHN:RUS:CAN

2 quotas - :ITA:USA:GER

1 quota - :FRA

Even though :PRK:CZE:AUS qualified for free skate (top 16), none of them gets Olympic qualification provisionally (and that's very unlikely to change after free skate). Meanwhile, :USA and :GER get two quotas even though their second pairs didn't even qualify for the free skate.

Long live the loving relationship between ISU and rich big nations! :toast:

The problem is the ridiculously high thresholds.

I mean 14 points for 3 quota and 28!!! For two quota is a joke. This should be max. 10 and 20.

Anyway there is still hope. US could lose their 2nd quota. Al tough not very probable Canada 3rd quota could be in danger. And I don't think Germany actually will send two pairs they have tough internal qualification rules.

Not that likely for USA. Even though Denney/Frazier finished 20th, they will still get 18 points instead of 20... That's the rule, if some counting pair/single skater does not qualify for free skate, the nation gets 18 points, no matter what the position was.

Also, if counting pair/skater qualifies for free skate, the nation can get max 16 points...

Wasn't their a rule that anyone that didn;t qualify for the long program would be ranked 17th .. so in that case France would qualify 2?

It's 18th, and no. Even though they should have 2, they can't have 2 because the max quota was already reached.

I think  :FRA has two quota places right now. James/Cipres are their only pair, and if they finish 10th, then France has to places.

Or is it because only 16 pairs can qualify at the WCH?

Edit: The Question was answered, before it was asked. Thanks. :d

Ok i did not know that. Which means France would get 2 quota as well but as the max of 16 is already reached

That is really not fair and favours big nations. Well it means our pair does not have a chance to qualify with 4 places left and such countries as CZE, AUS and PRK still without quota.

The national qualification criteria are not published, yet, but if it's similar to the last Winter Games, then the second pair will have to reach at least 154 points in average during their best two international results. That's possible. Hase/Seegert got 147 points at the European Championships.

    • Does the CAS have the authority to address from someone who believes the judges made a mistake in a given discipline? Pizzolato's last attempt at Paris 2024, which earned him the bronze medal, was controversial, but what does the CAS have to do with it? Even if the judges made a mistake then, the result won't change and this isn't the only case where someone feels wronged with this in world of sports. Unless, of course, they have some evidence of corruption or something like that
    • If Pizzolato will to return, would it be to the 86 kg category, or the 94 kg category, like Nasar? In 2024, they were both in the 89 kg category, which will no longer be at the Olympics, but in 2021 in Tokyo, Pizzolato won a medal in the 81 kg category.   Of course, it's unclear what's going on with the rape accusations- personally, unfortunately, I don't think he was ever a sweet angel- he was accused of other immoral things also 10 years ago, but gang rape? I find that hard to believe... Besides, Moldova has appealed about his bronze medal from Paris 2024 to the CAS- the verdict was supposed to be in February. Do you know anything about this? Did they have any grounds for this lawsuit at all?
    • Ukraine won 6 gold medals out of 10 in the women's competotion  + 1 silver and 1 bronze. Where do they get these girls from? It's always been a strong country, but they have never dominated like this. I wonder if their training methods would work in another country and if their coaches have any offerts to job from other countries? However, there is a significant decline in women's judo in Ukraine, so maybe they have directed all their resources and money towards wrestling?   In fact, Ukraine dominates Europe as much as Japan does the world- they have the best school in women's wrestling. In 2024, Ukraine only won 1 silver medal at the Paris Olympics? So even domination in Europe doesn't guarantee even 1 gold medal at the Olympics. Although, of course, if Italy for example, can't even win 1 bronze medal at the European Championships, then there's no point in even going to the World Championships...
    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
    • Track cycling is one of the few sports where there is no host nation quota, so  will need to work hard to achieve our quotas.  It's not our best sport, but was happy to see Top 10 results in the Elimination Race for Grant Koontz and Emma Jimenez Palos (who is just 18!).
    • Yes, I saw the same thing you did @clemsonbeav (on both accounts) but I agree it looks pretty stock.
