Tevanyan also beat Gadzhiev to make it to the Olympics. he is the rising star of this weight

but what a dumb mistake by Umarpashaev. the first thing you learn in wrestling clubs is to never let your foot be close to your head. because if your opponent locks them together there is no way you can escape the fall. Umarpashaev was still leading 6-4 at the time but one dumb mistake was enough for Kentchadze.

well, we were close of a combat sport quota this time, we start to be closer and closer, one day it will come :d

The sad thing about it, is that again no wrestling in our TV during the Olympics, I´ll be again forced to search stream links..

Expected losses in our other two matches. Idiotic mistake by Umarpashaev after a flying start. He will have a tough time getting over this. Like my predictions, just the 1 quota sadly. We are heading for our smallest wrestling team in i don't even know how long.

so at the end of the day

3 :BLR

2 :AZE:ARM:TUR

1 :GER:BUL:GEO

what a pleasant surprise at the end, Khramiankou just beat Sharipov by a last second takedown. good challenge from the Belarusian coach. and Sharipov himself knew he lost the match even before the final confirmation. I think Tedeev (Russian FS head coach who was absent here) is going to kill him right at the airport :d he better takes refugee in Hungary

and Azerbaijan lost another "supposed to be" easy quota. this time to Germany, grandpa Magomedov gassed after 30-40 seconds and the German guy pushed him out of the mat like 100 times. :p

interesting point, only 1 of 12 seeded wrestlers qualified for Tokyo (Vangelov) that says enough about the seeding system.

the best wrestler of the day: Khramiankou

    • Kudos to you bud, I don't think anyone was happy with the performance by Canada all tournament, but we all stayed on until the end. Take as much time as you need.
    • As new sports I would add cyclocross with the condition it needs to be contested on snow. I would add ice climbing in speed and lead events. I would add freeride ski and snowboard. For new events I would add team sprint events in speed skating, women's Nordic combined, mixed team ski cross, mixed team parallel giant slalom, women's team ski jumping and add longer distance ski mountaineering events.    If there was room on the schedule I would also expand curling to 12 teams in each event.   In total I would add around 20 events for a total of 136 events. Cyclocross-3 Ice climbing-4 Freeride-4 Speed skating-2 Ski jumping-1 Nordic combined-2 Mixed team ski cross-1 Mixed team parallel giant slalom-1 Ski mountaineering-2
    • Hey everyone , now that the Olympics are over just wanted to make an announcement that I'll be taking a break from posting on Totallympics for the most part, and watching sports. Mentally these games have broke me in so many ways, and I need time to reset. Not sure for how long, at least a week, but I'll be back for the Paralympics.   I thought taking time to reflect over the past week and a half, it would make Grondin's silver feel better, it didn't at all. I still think about it all the time and it hurts. Just upset, frustrated, and disappointed that he was a photo finish away from gold... again, and I'd trade half of our medals for the colour to be changed.    Not to mention Canada only won 21 medals, 5-7-9, which is our lowest total since Salt Lake City 2002 with less events, but whatever I got used to it half a week ago...
    • Otherwise the tournament has been excellent in ice hockey, and overall too. 😊
    • Overtime being 3-on-3 is such a bad rule, especially in a final.
    • NBC had a lovely special after the ceremony...even highlighted some non-USA athletes.  Perhaps a few Americans will know Klaebo's name now!  There was even a segment highlighting the Italian medallists, that this was a record year for them, too.   (Best of Milan Cortina, on Peacock, if you can access it.)
