Swimming at the Aquatics FINA World Championships 2017

Recommended Posts

Olivier and Muller, 2 people, 4 medals, 2 gold medals

It's funny how when our other swimming team is collapsing, this one is starting to shine (well, it had already started but you know what I mean)

The fight goes on between 'team mates' Sharon van Rouwendaal and Aurelie Muller. Last year Muller got DQ'ed at the Olympics for pushing one of the Italian women under water, followed by Van Rouwendaal winning gold, which lead to frustrated Muller not speaking a single word to her (they train together with Philippe Lucas) for a year. This time at the 5km, Muller pushed Van Rouwendaal and Cunha in the fight for 2nd, 3rd and 4th, but this time it didn't lead to a DQ for Muller. To use Van Rouwendaal's exact words: "It's never going to be alright between us anymore, what an incredible bitch she is." :d

Gotta love a good rivalry.

Again a bronze medal for us  I like this new format of the team event

Sadly for the Netherlands it means they can't participate, because there's no decent second woman here, but 2 men + 2 women is indeed a whole lot better than 2 men and 1 woman :d

Wasn't it also allowed to have 1 men + 2 women before? :p

yes, but the main difference is the format of the competition...until last year it was a time trial race with the 3 members of each team swimming together (like time trials in cycling), now we have a real relay with 4 members (2 men + 2 women) for each team...

and that makes it a lot more spectacular...I'd even say that this event should be put into the Olympic program...and it would make a lot more sense than most of the latest additions (Judo team event included, just to talk about mixed gender team events)...

however, going back to the races of this first week at Balaton Lake, pretty disappointing results for Italy until now...all of our athletes definitely underperformed, if compared to this season's regular World Cup series...

and especially in the men's Olympic distance we are really behind the best, we need someone else rather than this group of guys, who are good but not enough for the individual medals...

and I'm not sure that taking Paltrinieri in this kind of events would be the right idea...

According to FINA website, the Mixed 5km Relay took place on 1 Jan 1970

But Omega Timing says

Gold: :FRA 54:05.9

Silver: :USA 54:18.1

Bronze: :ITA 54:31.0

As now we come across the world
To share these Games of old
Let all the flags of every land
In brotherhood unfold

The 25km started more than 3 hours ago but it's not even on the ES Player, there's still no live timing or anything....this world champs really suck in terms of organization/timing and that kind of things.

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
