New Zealand very poorly reacted to Greek defensive pressure in the 2nd half. Maybe this will give them boost to play their best game vs Lithuania on friday but LTU has to be favorite to place 2nd in the new group and reach QF.

We looked good in the opening round, but the group was bad. Still given Italy's woes so far we have to be favorites to win the 1st place in new group. Serbia vs Lithuania so far looks like it could be QF for very probably Olympic quota place. But anything can happen really.

Olympic Qualification Overview

Africa

No team reached the second round so the best team in the 17-32 classification will qualify. Here are their records

:ANG record: 1-2 | pt diff: -12

:EGY record: 1-2 | pt diff: -13

:SSD record: 1-2 | pt diff: -17

:CPV record: 1-2 | pt diff: -34

:CIV record: 1-2 | pt diff: -40

All nations were able to pick up a win so they are currently tied, but Angola, Egypt and South Sudan's have the point difference advantage over Cabo Verde and Cote d'Ivoire. Of course, this only matters if they finished in the same position in their respective groups. In terms of group difficulty, everyone except Cote d'Ivoire has a chance at winning the group though Angola and South Sudan have the best chance. The match between the two could determine the Olympic quota.

Asia

No team reached the second round so the best team in the 17-32 classification will qualify. Here are their records

:JPN record: 1-2 | pt diff: -28

:PHI record: 0-3 | pt diff: -23

:IRI record: 0-3 | pt diff: -63

:JOR record: 0-3 | pt diff: -77

:CHN record: 0-3 | pt diff: -80

:LBN record: 0-3 | pt diff: -100

Not a good tournament so far for Asia. Only Japan has won a match which puts them as the strong favourites to win the Olympic quota. Cabo Verde and Venezuela may not be the easiest opponents, but Japan can afford to lose one of those matches and still take the quota. The Philippines is the nation most likely to win both of their matches, but with China, Iran and Lebanon also facing Asian opponents in the 17-32 classification there could be a scramble in the event of a Japanese implosion.

Europe

10/12 nations advanced to the second round as France (who was not eligible for the quota) and Finland failed. Things are still very much up in the air to comment on the quota. Currently, :GER :LTU :SRB :SLO :ESP have a 3-0 record while :GEO :GRE :ITA :MNE :LAT have a 2-1 record. In terms of direct matches, :ITA and :SRB are in Group I, :GRE :LTU and :MNE are in Group J, :GEO :GER and :SLO are in Group K and :LAT and :ESP are in Group L. 4-6 teams should advance to the quarterfinals.

Oceania

:AUS wins the quota as they reached the second round while :NZL failed to qualify.

Pan America

5/7 nations advanced to the second round with :MEX and :VEN failing to advance. Like Europe, the quota may not be determined this round, but a couple of direct match-ups will likely spell the end for some nations. :DOM v :PUR and :BRA v :CAN will occur this round with Olympic survival on the line. The former match could kill off both teams depending on other results. :USA is in a tough group, but their talent should carry them to the quarterfinals.

Too bad that there are so many weak teams and therefore so many boring games. Would be great to have a tournament with the following teams:

USA

Canada

Australia

Spain

France

Serbia

Germany

Greece

Italy

Slovenia

Lithuania

5 out of Brazil/Puerto Rico/Dominican Republic/Turkey/Croatia/Montenegro/Latvia/Nigeria/Israel

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

NZ simply collapsed. They put too much energy in both offense and defence in the first half. But we were awful anyway. We cant go further with such a team

maybe it would be better for less teams in the world cup. 24 as it was until 2014

Angola lost to China and I don't exclude South Sudan losing also to Philippines today , we must defeat Jordan whom has Kobe Bryant of the poor and who's always a big barrier for all Arab countries plus Iran , they can lose to anyone but not these teams,  it'd be interesting match to follow

    • Alix Klineman has also announced her retirement following the conclusion of the AVP League    https://www.instagram.com/reel/DB9CZwrPfqj/?igsh=MTZiaDk0NndmaTAzcQ==   What a sad year for beach volleyball, with Brouwer, Meeuwsen, Ludwig, Bobner, Pavan, and now these two retiring.
    • It's good that Argentina is starting to get back on track economically. Every year, all of our alpine skiing teams train in August in Argentina in Ushuaia: "Fine del Mundo", as it advertises itself.
    • The relation of Trump with Russia and, more specific, with Putin is probably the most controversial (being generous) thing of the presidence of Trump, i dont believe the same but is clearly that China help democrats in that election, both are playing their games.   In Argentina the society is clearly divided, the people who are in the left side of the politics, peronist and kirchnerism are very against the goverment, propably the only genuine "rigth-wing" goverment since the recovery of the democracy in 1983. For me and the most part who are in the rigth wing: libertarians, nacionalist and conservatives, is probably the best goverment we see to this days, he made in his first year with a very few legislators in the congress some big and good changes:   1) In the economical: the inflation is only 3% per month since a more of 15% in the last months of the last year, Argentina has now fiscal, financial and comercial surplus-   2) Our country didnt have fighter planes and the goverment buy 24  American F16  -   3) He changes the electoral sistem for a "single ballot" sistem, we have an obsolete electoral sistem that doesnt change from the 19 century and specially, the peronist use for make fraud.   4) In my personal case, he really update the tax sistem for small/medium profesionals and traders.......and that save us to pay the 50% of our earnings to the state.   With a big expectations in the goverment, its better than i thinked before.
    • It could be better, or it could be much worse, for example, if the accusations that he has been accepting large amounts of money from Russia since 2017 are confirmed. Now let Harris win, which will end Trump's political career and I hope that in 4 years the Republicans will put up someone more predictable.     btw, how is this controversial president of Argentina doing?
    • More predictable is not always better, for me the goverment of Biden was one of the worst of the History of USA and i cant imagine what can happen with even a worse version like Harris is.   I hope, for the contrary, Trump be elected and "may be" the things changes for the better in the world.
    • I once read that Harris had never been to Europe before 2020, when she became vice president. On the other hand, her foreign policy will be more predictable, because it will be a continuation of Biden's policies. That is why I hope Harris wins, although the bookmakers are betting on Trump.
    • Harris is totally green on foreign policy. It will probably be a policy 100% led by Biden's people. Harris' main campaign emphasis is on abortion and women's rights.
    • So much for "everybody's laughing at us if we elect Harris"
