Brackets are out for Greco in Africa/Oceania qualifires

59: only 3 wrestlers in round robin ! EGY for sure, MAR/ALG for the other spot

66: 6 wrestlers, AUS or NZL will qualify !!! bottom half is a bit harder

75: 4 wrestlers in round robin, EGY/ALG/MAR are favorites

85: 7 wrestlers, ALG is the favorite for the top half, EGY in the bottom half

98: again only 3 wrestlers for 2 quotas !!

130: 6 wrestlers, 2 in top, 4 in bottom half

I hope for more wrestlers in freestyle because with this low number, some wrestlers will get undeserved quotas. EGY and ALG will most probably complete (or almost complete) Greco teams

PS: Morocco has Iranian coaching staff, so I hope they qualify some wrestlers here :d

btw I see a former world bronze medalist Sahit Prizreni (from Albania) is listed for Australia in freestyle. he can't win a medal but he can be a bit competitive at least. I remember before 2008 Olympics he asked for American citizenship but failed, apparently this time he managed to get citizenship this time in Australia ! it will be his 3rd Olympic if he qualifies.

I remember that famous Madagascar vs Sierra Leone lucky semifinal draw from London 2012 (in one of the women's categories). Hoping for something similar this time. :d

I see only one non-Northern African athlete in Greco-Roman, Namibia in -66kg. Not too surprised since the region dominates Greco-Roman in the continent, but I thought other nations would at least attempt to compete. Where's Nigeria? They could have challenge for the spots.

From what i see, Australia has a good chance to qualify two wrestlers here, they were really lucky with the draw.

back in 2012, only two Oceania wrestlers managed to qualify and since I still remember that tournament, both qualified by poor luck and accidentally. maybe this time we will have more from Oceania.

Serbia might get a gold medal after all, rumor says Islambek Albiev is also in the list, actually almost the whole Greco-Roman team.

but again these are still rumors, even though very serious rumors.

Do you know is it meldonium or some other prohibited substance?

If GR team is caught then it is sure that we will have same situation in FS. Russia really didnt need that. :wall:

Honestly I can't remember

btw, apparently and per Mamiashvili's claim (RUS wrestling president) only two wrestlers got caught for doping, Sergey Semenov and Evgeny Saleev. Mami claims it was just misunderstanding in Reuters article !

Egypt most probably will qualify a full Greco team, they already qualified 5 and the other one will qualify too. Australia also qualified 2 as expected.

in 3 weights we had direct elimination system, and it's clear who qualified

66: EGY and AUS

85: EGY and ALG

130: EGY and AUS

but other 3 weights were in round robin

59: EGY qualified for sure, ALG will qualify only he beats EGY in last round robin match, which is not going to happen unless they fix the match ! in a normal situation EGY and MAR will qualify

75: MAR qualified for sure, the last spot is between ALG and EGY, again EGY will qualfy in normal situation but if MAR loses by TF, Fall or Walkover to ALG, in this case EGY is out 100% and can't do anything himself ! but I don't think it happens,

98: EGY qualfied for sure, the winner of ALG/MAR match will join him

    • Besides, I think Eitrem will be better than Ghiotto. You can see it after 1500 meters. He is younger. The whole Norwegian team is also in great shape. You just have to look at the team Norway has, how many new and young skaters there are and in our group A there is one Trentini, who takes last place. In every winter sport we invest too little money to be counted.   If Eitrem has the same form over long distances as he does over 1500 metres, he will dominate this season, not Ghiotto or Roest.
    • Looking at last season's 1st World Cup, it's worse for now and it should be the other way around. Bosa out of shape, Trentini weak. Both will drop to a lower group. It's similar to skeleton, i.e. regression instead of progress. I hope this doesn't mean Ghiotto is also in weaker form, because it could end up with 0 podiums this weekend.
    • In general, our picture for a little over 1 year until the home games looks like this:     - the women's sector is still based on one Lollo, who is 3 years older than 2022, - the women's and men's sprint sector is based on one Bosa and possibly the young Pergher (0% possobility for medal in 2026), - Ghiotto has made a lot of progress and that is a big plus. He could result to give our even 3 medals, including 1/2 gold. Our team's performance also depends to a large extent on Ghiotto's form, - the rest of the men's team is basically unchanged. There is Giovannoni in the mass start, there is Malfatti in the longer distances, but they are not competitors on the podium of a major event.   I will repeat myself: if Ghiotto continues to make such progress, we will probably win 3 medals, 2 of which gold and it will be a success. If something doesn`t work out, an injury, illness, etc. (we know from Vitozzi that this can happen to anyone), then it could be very bad. By the way, this also applies to other sports: the above-mentioned Vitozzi in biathlon, Goggia in downhill, Brignone in giant slalom, etc.
    • With the World Cup season in most of the winter sports about to begin and qualification in some sports already underway, I think it's about time for this thread.    Template    ... • Today is a day without Italians in the leads positions. I`m worried that they are not trying to revive this our sprint. There is only one Bosa and he is old. Pergher is young but she is also only one. It is a pity. After the Olympics they will probably 100% give up on the entire sprint. Our medal bag in Cortina will depend 90% on Ghiotto, just like it did on Fabris in Turin 2006. If Ghiotto will be in goodshape, he can even win 2 individual golds + a team medal. If not, it will be a flop. Apart from him, only Lollobrigida can compete in the mass start and possibly Giovannini in the men's mass start.
    • Yup, actually they have just some juniors pairs in the dance event
