Nice result for Paulina Fialkova

yes. actually I´m really satisfied, she was ill all last week and her todays start was questionable untill the last minutes, so we expected that run will not be ideal, but still very good. well done Paulína, our first womens points this season and probably we may jump back into top 20 in Nations Cup :cheer:

So, Another unsuccesful day for us. only Paulína Fialková on points and our only women qualified for tomorrows pursuit :( at least thanks her points our girls jumped into 19th place in the Nations Cup, hopefully it will be only better now and we will only climb up in this ranking now.

Terezia Poliaková as usual our best shooter but this run...oh dear only the 92nd running time, and Gereková is absolutely out of shape, and most likely she will be the one who will be cut of the team and replaced by Kuzmina from next stage..but the final decision of the coach about who will be replaced, will be announced during the week.

Among mens. no points today :wall: after excellent thursday came today again a disaster...only Hasilla qualified for the pursuit. Otčenáš had terrible standing shooting, but apparently caused by some problems with lens.

At least guys remains at 17th place in the Nations Cup.

Same for us, no men's on points and noone from them not qualified to pursuit race :( from women's only Kinga Mitoraj won one single point, which is first point for our an women's biathlete in this season

Also terrible beginning of the season for Canadians, no Smith or Crawford in pursuit! :yikes:

Jana Gereková will be replaced by Anastasiya Kuzmina in Pokljuka. Very sad start of the season for Gereková :( but she will get another chance, if she will perform well in IBU cup in Ridnaun next weekend she will return back to A team and replace the worst ranked from Pokljuka in next stage in Nove Město.

That is a shame :( The races were very windy, surely it's not the most accurate measure of her strength. I'm sure she'll come back.

    • so, the Swiss reigning champions, who saved their ass in the last match of the RS, now are almost safe in the semis once again...   very impressive performance also by RB Salzburg, I didn't expect them to make such a good run, even if the 2nd leg match won't be easy at all and they're all but safe in the final four

    • I guess 65, 79, 88, 110, 110+ will be the Olympic classes for 2028 (I don't think IOC would allow them to increase the number of gold medals available at the Games yet...most likely they want to to stay with the current lineup and see how it goes in the next Olympic cycle in terms of doping scandals before taking any decision)  or maybe they will keep those weights for the "regular activity" and later on they will set 5 different weight classes only good for Olympic purposes, with dedicated tournaments when it's time for the OQ (like Taekwondo, more or less)  but it's just my personal speculation, I have no infos from the inside
    • Today the funniest tournament of the season, the Shoot Out, will starts
    • Luckily for us, it happened exactly as we thought. Unfortunately, the Serbian players had to play the entire match, the difference in value between the starters and the reserves being quite large, and thus at the end of the match their fatigue was evident.
    • if they limit the number of qualified athletes to 8 per category that will not exceed the allocated quota (marginally). I know 8 athletes only is a bit harsh but will be more competitive.
    • Thank you for putting this together, it was fun to go through. From your keyboard to God's ears on Canada's short track team here (I believe you have us at 4-1-1, which is realistic if everything works out).   Leaving us off the podium in speed skating women's pursuit was interesting.   Three medals of any colour in curling would be celebrated at this point after two disasterous cycles.   In hockey, I'll always take our girls over the Americans (was "lucky" enough to see them lose in 2018 in person, though. Only time in 6 Games. Haha...hahahahaha...ha).    For the men, I said above unless Canada finds a goaltender I'm not too optimistic. USA is just too well rounded. But lots can happen by then, and in a one game elimination tournament.
    • big decision by IWF   new weight categories, 8 for men and 8 for women from June 2025   Men 60kg, 65kg, 71kg, 79kg, 88kg, 98kg, 110kg, +110kg Women 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 77kg, 86kg, +86kg   and this means all World records will be erased AGAIN !    https://iwf.sport/2024/12/03/iwf-executive-board-meeting-in-manama-brn-december-2-3-main-decisions/   I think that was a good decision, 10 weights was too much. but erasing the current World Records was the down side of this decision.   but does this mean they have some agreements with IOC to have all these weights at the Olympics ? that looks unlikely though  but looking at the numbers and the gap between weights none of them look like a "non-Olympic weight" at least that's what IWF thinks.
