Enzo Kuwoge, the first Dutch weightlifter in an 'Olympic' event since Piet van der Kruk in 1968, will carry the Dutch flag.

The Athletics format is so complicated, even I can’t understand it and I’ve competed in 3 different youth track organizations. So the medalists in the distance events will be decided by thier combined time in thier respective event and thier cross country time. The 4x800m (or 8X100m) Mixed Relay is open athletes from every sport. The throws and jumps will only take 4 attempts (This is the one rule similar to USATF’s youth program) and never change order based on position. The sprinters will use the combined time from 2 heats of thier event to determine a winner. Could they make athletics any harder or dumber?

Gosh the "innovative" events are so horrible

Might as well include something like canoeing on roads and fencing with feet

"The mixed relay, which was introduced in 2014, has been modified for this year's Games. Four years ago, the exhibition 8x100m event was staged just for track and field athletes. This year it has been opened up to all sports. For example, track and field athletes will feature on teams alongside participants from the 32 other sports taking place in Buenos Aires."

Can't wait for our Rhytmic Gimnast to get us all shock and bring home the gold in the last relay.

That wouldn't be half as interesting as if a heavyweight wrestler or weightlifter achieved that. :d

Sad Spain didn't qualify in Equiestrian. A horse in the last leg of the relay is a clear gold.

    • Plenty of people here as well who would, in the same line, want to see USA, Iran, Israel (Sudan?) banned, for example.
    • A "government" boycott is not the same as an ATHLETES' boycott.  All it means is that the Ambassador will not be shown on TV waving at the Team when they walk in.  Many Governments including  &  boycotted the Sochi ceremony, for example.  How did Putin respond? By invading  the day the Olympics ended.
    • sorry, Stolz in Milan was just 1/100 faster, 33.77 for the Olympic gold
    • This is a problem that both the IOC and IPC created, and honestly, I don't know what they could do now.   I personally condemn what Russia did to Ukraine, but it's difficult to take the credibility of this ban seriously when there's no justification for it given that other countries ignore the Olympic truce and suffer no consequences. I don't know what the view is in Europe, but I can say that here in Brazil, many question why Russia is banned and others aren't, even considering them unfairly treated.
