Rowing Qualification for Summer Olympic Games 2016

Recommended Posts

Less than two years ago Iran was #1 in men's single sculls in Asia, now after a year and half , our guy most probably won't even finish in top 8 to qualify ! :yikes:

looks like Iran won't qualify more than one female rower !

For India if we qualify in 2 events then we have to choose one out of that. So still not confirmed who will they select. Or have we not in top 3 in doubles....

Tokyo - 2020

I like the name of Indonesian athlete that qualified today. Memo Memo :d:thumbup:

She probably doesn't have a surname, her name is simply Memo.

The naming system is strange in some Asian countries.

Uzbekistan and Singapore qualified to the men's and women's single sculls respectively.

Men's lightweight double sculls went to China, Japan and Hong Kong (no reallocation needed) while women's lightweight double sculls went to Japan, South Korea and Vietnam (2 reallocations needed). Thailand and Qatar in the single sculls and Hong Kong and Thailand in the lightweight double sculls will be the reallocation depending of what South Korea and Vietnam (and subsequent reallocation in LDS) choose.

Vanuatu also positioned itself in a good position to get a tripartite quota. His time was much more respectable relative to Sri Lanka's female athlete.

    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
