Ah, about the grandstand thing: I had kind of missed it, but Duda's mom left literally the second Bruna arrived and we started celebrating her perfomance  Gave a stink eye, got up and left without a look

Ai ai, Brasil and the grandstand adventures. Saw Duda's oldest brother as well, called him and - as per usual for him - he immediately came up to us with a massive smile. Awesome guy, luckily. Just like her other brother, potential Paralympic sit ski champion Cristian Ribera.

And with that, threw my prediction for Bruna in the trash: I had said she'd finish 76th. She did. Then the two Koreans were DQ'ed and it became 74th.

Next goal: top-20 in the team sprint, because if rules are followed, that should mean a nice extra bag of financial support ('Bolsa Atleta') for the next 1 year :d

I'll take part in the Swedish cheer squad by then! :cheer:
But maybe I'll only cheer for half the team then ;)

Today in a restaurant we met a bunch of Swedish fans who were watching another sport on their tablet while eating, we had some nice contact with them. On the grandstands, my dad asked the Swedish army behind us to cheer for Bruna and they certainly did!

So far, 10/10 for the Swedes I've met here, keep it up :d

So happy for both of you @heywoodu and @brunamoura! It must be a surreal experience in the best way possible! :)

Surreal is for sure a correct way to describe it, the entire day :d

From seeing her, of course (first while she was warming up and we saw each other for the first time there), to sitting waiting for the finals to begin and suddenly someone coming up and "you must be Bruna's family? I'm from the NOS and I am here for Bruna! I just talked to her already and she is coming here she said, now can I ask you a few things?" (NOS is the Dutch public broadcaster) :d

    • ""The most important thing, in my opinion, is mental preparation" - Maria Vynnyk said this on Thursday after winning the first major gold medal; maybe this is where the secret lies. As you said, Ukrainian girls have always been strong, but not dominant at continental level; my conjecture is that the Russian invasion has made them mentally stronger, giving them that extra edge needed to tilt the balance in the final stages of a competition.
