Women's Volleyball FIVB World Championship 2025

I can't believe how badly the Brazilians played after the 13-13 tie in the 5th set. Of course Italy was the favorite to win, and deservedly so, but the Brazilians had the no emotional control in the last two points and the Italians were as cold blooded as one can be. Congratulations. Well deserved victory for Italy.

This was easily one of the top 5 volleyball games I have ever seen :yikes:

I think Brazil played slightly better throughout most of the game. If the match had been stopped at 13-13 in the 5th and the winner had to be decided by judges, Brazil would have won.

Brazil passed perfectly for 5 sets, basically neutralizing even Antropova's serve. When she hit a cannonball with Italy up 12-11 in the tie-break and Brazil received perfectly again, I thought that was a turning point in the match. Then at 13-13, they basically shot themselves in the foot off an innocuous float serve by Sylla.

The match gave me the same feeling as Djokovic vs. Federer at Wimbledon 2019: the loser seemed to do everything better and should have won according to all criteria, and yet somehow lost.

Also, Gabi's performance was one for the ages.

I can say that was one of the most entertaining volleyball match I ever seen. probably only 2nd to 2012 men's Olympic final. (I'm sure there are lots of other great matches but only this came to mind) and Gabi's performance today was one of the best ever. maybe THE best ever.

Italy almost had no plan to play under pressure, I mean no plan B because they never needed that in past 2 summers. when you win for a very long time, you usually lose when it hurts the most. hopefully they learn from this and play better tomorrow.

I hope Brazilian fans don't be too hard on Julia Bergmann. that was sad watching her cry after the match.

btw I know about injuries on both sides (Ana Cristina, Degradi etc) but can someone tell me why C. Bosetti is not with Italy anymore ? and Carol (the middle blocker) for Brazil. retired from the NT? injured? not good enough anymore ?

I'm afraid we'll lose to Turkey in the final. However, we play today much longer and  some hours later. Turkey is in the best form of the season here and we're not playing as well as we did in Paris. Secondly, Vargas played brilliantly today, from what I can see in the statistics. It's fortunate we have Antropova, but unfortunately, the pur weakness at second-OH is obvious in matches like this. We would really need Pietrini in good form... Brazil is our toughest opponent recently, so maybe this was our worst match? Hopefully...

Epic match, one of the best match EVER in women's volleyball  Congrats to the Brazilian team :)

Now the question is, will it be possible to recover properly for tomorrow? That's less than 24 hours.... We haven't played many matches here, but that might be a factor. It's also clear that Antropova is playing against Bra better than Egonu. Kate also had to enter the VNL final and score the most points. Today was the same. Without such a strong reserve as Antropova, we were for 99% lost today, I think.

Sadly, in the US they only aired the first Semi, not the second.  (I don't pay to watch online.). But they will (supposedly) be airing the finals...hoping for a good game!

(They didn't even show all the VNL games with the US playing...who knows why?)
