AIN athletes qualification for Paris 2024 Olympic Games and reallocation of quotas [post#1 updated 15.07]

Recommended Posts

Tennis

Victoria AZARENKA (F) - Invitation initially accepted but subsequently declined

Swimming

  • 1 quota places (1 Male / 0 Female) for AINs with a Russian passport
  • 3 quota places (1 Male / 2 Female) for AINs with a Belarusian passport

Eligible and invited athletes with a Russian passport

  • Evgenii SOMOV (M) – Invitation accepted

Eligible and invited athletes with a Belarusian passport

  • Alina ZMUSHKA (F) – Invitation accepted
  • Ilya SHYMANOVICH (M) – Invitation accepted
  • Anastasiya SHKURDAI (F) – Invitation accepted

Taekwondo

  • Georgiy GURTSIEV (M) - Invitation accepted

Canoe

Eligible and invited athletes with a Russian passport

  • Aleksei KOROVASHKOV (M) – Invitation accepted

This confirms Russian C2 at the Olympics. Polish Canoe Federation appealed against allowing AIN athletes competing in pairs (or more) but not teams yet but it seems to be a lost case as AIN pairs are allowed in other sports like tennis.

Edited by Kerkun

So in Taekwondo (men's-58kg) only one Russian (representing Belarus) had a quota. They had rejected it and reallocated to another Russian (representing Serbia). Now they changed their mind so they added a quota and both Russians are in.

My guess is Ukriane will soon withdraw from the Games causing a fair bit of disruption and a lot of embarrassment for the IOC. Maybe some other countires will withdraw as well.

Officially!

Russian wrestlers, who received an invitation from the IOC, refused to compete at the Games in Paris.

I know this has already been mentioned due to Estrada defecting from Cuba.

At the same time Makhmadbek MAKHMADBEKOV who was marked by the IOC as "Invitation accepted" is excluded.
