Honorato is the alternate. Brothers Souza are going to Paris, as well as Lukas Bergmann and his sister Julia.

Opinion on the team?

On the positive: surprised to see both Bergmann and Adriano.

On the negative: some of the older names shouldn't be on the team anymore, at minimum Judson should be one of the middle blockers instead of Lucão. Also, Honorato out of the team (as has been the case since the VNL) could be a costly mistake.

Prediction: 3rd in the group and a defeat in QF.

It's so good to see young players on this Brazil team. I have no expectations for this Olympics, but I think we could have an interesting team for Los Angeles. At least we are good enough with opposites and OH, the problem will be in setters, middle blockers and liberos.

Despite all this, I suspect that these young players (Darlan, Adriano and Lukas) were called up because they are extremely popular and will probably generate engagement for the team.

:ITA

Setters: Simone Giannelli (Captain), Riccardo Sbertoli.
Outside Hitters: Alessandro Michieletto, Daniele Lavia, Luca Porro, Mattia Bottolo.
Middle Blockers: Gianluca Galassi, Roberto Russo, Giovanni Sanguinetti.
Opposites: Yuri Romanò, Alessandro Bovolenta.
Libero: Fabio Balaso.

Reserve: Gabriele Laurenzano (Libero).

Apparently nothing serious. On the other hand, Alan is injured and has been replaced by Honorato at least for the first match.

    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
