Unusual to see 4 gymnasts from the last Olympics being selected again, but of course things would be different if Shilese Jones and Skye Blakely weren't injured.

No Shilese Jones ?

Shocking stuff, 3 gymnasts got injured within the week. All 3 were team contenders with chances for an all-around medal (Skye Blakely, Shilese Jones, Kayla DiCello) USA are still favorites but it's a massive compilation.

Probably has to do with the excessive amount of competitions + pressure to make the team (I understand that most of them usually do the AA in all competitions, sometimes twice).

  • 2 weeks later...

Shoko Miyata, the captain of the :JPN women’s team will miss out on the Olympics due to underage smoking.

According to the Japanese law, the legal smoking age is 20 and Miyata is 19.

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
    • Today : Jordan 3-0 Egypt  This team will surprise us
    • option no.2 for sure, as it's been all this shitstorm organized by the nhl owners through their embedded reporters   ps not that the north american audience looks really aware of the hockey rules and habits outside the nhl (and around their game, too, since they look not to know that just a couple of weeks ago they played 2 nhl matches on an ice sheet of the exact same size of Milan's olympic arena)
    • Are we supposed to take Daly's word for it or is this just public posturing to try and shame the Milan organizers (which they certainly deserve for all the delays) in order to threaten NHL participation?
